In this thread we’re going to post any queries we have regarding our moms. Anyone can come and contribute.
I was doing my mom’s makeup ( for the first time ever) yesterday for someone’s engagement party. My mom has small eyes and she’s in her 40s. I couldn’t do anything for her eyes. Mom doesn’t like wearing eye pencil or eyeliner as she feels her eyes look tiny. I want her to try some eye makeup. I’m not sure what would be right for her though
liner on older eyes is a really bad idea. keep it simple with a light coloured wash on the lid (a taupe type colour) and a brow highlighter (not too shimmery). if the eyes aren't too small and wrinkled, you can possibly get away with some dark shadow (dark brown) applied with a flat square brush as a liner on the outer part of the eye. you want to keep everything soft, so no pencil.. which would also tug on the delicate eye skin so isn't a good idea anyway.
as we age, eyebrows and lashes often get lighter. if that's the case, don't touch the black mascara. dark brown or brown mascara will look more graceful and help open up the eyes.
the same applies for lips. keep it light colours.
blush should be a natural flush colour.
younger women can get away with heavy and dramatic makeup but as you get older you want to feel fresh faced and youthful so it's all about creating a soft, romantic look with as few products as possible.
My mum NEVER wears make up.... she is very fair and has freckles all over her face. Has dark blonde eyebrows and eyelashes.... so yep, the typical "asian" make up does NOT look good on her... and to top it off, also has small eyes!! :)
The last wedding we went to, I had to beg her to let me put some make up on her... she normally only wears lippy... :)
I used a medium brown soft eye liner on her... just lined the outer corners of her eyes and used a natural, slightly shimmery eye shadow...and topped off with a bit of natural brown mascara... and voila... perfect... a nice, natural look that just emphasised her eyes... oh and a little bit of blush.... :)
She looked like a doll (she's not even 5") bless her!!! :) :)
MKD , great thread this one … I cajoled my MIL into me , doing her makeup.. she is very simple and hadnt done it before … I just put some silver grey eye shadow on her eyes … with black kajal in the lids and then using my silver /white bourjois eyeshadow, I just drew a sort of a line instead of the liner …
Very little blush , Infact I chose peach color for her and applied it next to none ..

As you age, you should concentrate on base and lips more then eyes. (Ok you are not aging, your mum is).
^ Actually I have observed the otherwise Jalpari … Like a few of my aunts who are in their 50’s … Used to be regular with foundation stuff and all in their younger days … as they are aging , I see them focus on their eyes and lips and totally relaxed on their base and blush etc …
Like with the eyes i dont think they use the mascara etc .. but eyeshadows and kajal is something i have seen alot of them focus on …
Thank you CB. My mum loves her foundation She’s tried out so many and it was only last year when she found the perfect one. I think I won’t try eye makeup on her next time. Foundation, blusher, lipstick and a lip gloss on top of it and a bit of bronzer or illuminator should be ok. I used a brow pencil on her. I think that’s enough for her
