MULTIPLE INTERESTS in studies

law, business, philosophy, and education.

has anybody done a self-proposed PhD, in which you would take one or two fields /disciplines and write a dissertation on a topic which involves theories from two diff. subjects?

how successful that experience has been?

on average, do more Pakistani students become fascinated by interdisciplinary approach to studies, or no?

share u throught?

Re: MULTIPLE INTERESTS in studies

Dush,

Most Ph.D. programs these days are quite implicity inter-disciplinary in the sense that there are no ready-made or pre-determined research areas to which one applies to or enters... despite an umbrella label for the department that you might be applying to.

A lot of times, the Ph.D. student’s interests evolve during the first two years of residency in his/her interactions with the supervisor, coursework instructors and colleagues, peers etc.

In my own case, my research is based on a combination of methods and theories from information systems (human-computer interaction), psychology (social cognitive theory) and business (internet marketing).
