ISLAMABAD, October 05 (Online): Law enforcement agencies have captured Mulla Abdul Latif Hakimi on Tuesday and is being investigated.

When contacted, interior minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao told Online that Mulla Abdul Latif Hakeemi was chief spokesman of Taliban and his arrest is a major success.

He informed law enforcement agencies apprehended Mulla Abdul Latif near Dera Ismail Khan. However I can not provide further details with reference to this arrest, he added.

Mulla Latif was active since several days and was engaged in giving interviews to several newspapers and T.V channels from unknown destination, interior minister told. However he has been arrested and investigations initiated, he added.

Interior minister made no confirmation of any other arrest saying at present he will only make confirmation of arrest of Mulla Latif which is a big achievement.

Meanwhile, Information Minister Sheikh Abdul Rashid has said arrested Taliban chief spokesman Abdul Latif Hakimi will be interrogated in Pakistan first of all and later it will be considered if he is to be handed over to US or otherwise.

In an interview with a foreign news agency here Tuesday he informed that Hakimi has been arrested in Balochistan province close to Afghan border.

Responding to a question if Hakimi will be handed over to US like other Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants, he said " first of we will quiz him and later we will see it.

He went on to say that investigation with Hakimi is in process and we are hoping to ascertain more information from him.

Karzai government has expressed delight over the arrest of Hakimi and thanked to Pakistan in this connection. Khalid Ahmad, official of Karzai presidential office said " we are grateful to government of Pakistan over the arrest of Hakeemi, information minister told.

Hakimi is such a person who has claimed to have killed innocent people, Rashid pointed out. Hakimi’s arrest will lead to more arrests, he added.

Security forces kill 35 foreigners, 30 local miscreants in NWA

Security Forces killed as many as 35 aliens and 30 local miscreants including close associate of an Al-Qaeda leader Tahir Yaldoshove and Commander Chamak in its four-long day offensive being launched in the militancy-haunted North Waziristan Agency (NWA) to flush out Al-Qaeda, Taliban remnants and their sympathizers, sources informed Online Monday .

Pak-Army spokesman confirmed security forces had succeeded in killing atleast 40 miscreants including 15 foreigners in its four-day offensive against Al-Qaeda and Taliban remnants in NWA. The foreigners including Chachens, Uzbaks, Turkmans and Afghanis, he added .

Security forces have also demolished house of Maulvi Sadiq Noor, a close aide of late local commander Naik Muhammad .

ISPR spokesman Major General Shaukat Sultan said while talking to a private TV that terrorists had been rooted out from Khatti Kali, a village in the volatile NWA. However, he said six other miscreants have been killed during clashes with security forces in another area. Dead body of one miscreant has been taken in custody by security forces while miscreants succeeded in carrying dead bodies of five other miscreants.
