There has been a significant drop in violence in Afghanistan during this year especially past 3-4 months. During this month 8 NATO soldiers have been killed and as things stand today I think this November would have the lowest casualties after 2007. The total number of forces killed during 2011 so far stands at 518 whereas during 2010 the number was 711. So the drop in casualties is around 20-25 % compared to the previous year.
The number of soldiers killed in Sept-Nov during the past three years are:
2009: 176
2010: 180
2011: 102 (uptil now)

the killing of these 16 american occupiers is fantastic news and all the muslims celebrated it everyone in pakistan and afghanistan was very happy with this news, even the secular muslims who attend masjids was saying good the yanks deserved a good beating.

rommel - good points about germany & saudi. The difference is the governments of Germany, Saudi Arabia did not say they will not cooperate in bringing the terrorists to justice, taleban unfortunately said that by refusing to hand over the al qaeda terrorists.
BTW I do see and understand the major errors America committed in how they conducted and communicated the ensuing war. It not America's goals or strategy but the way they executed that caused significant civilian damage that could and should have been avoided. The W administration was very stupid in that respect and caused major harm to world peace. The Obama administration has no choice and are unable to abruptly change tactics
