Muhammed (pbuh) in the Bible

(excerpts from a booklet of Ahmed Deedat, I’m translating this from Dutch, so sorry for any mistakes)

In the Bible you can read about many things like the beast, Israël, the return of Jesus (as), miracles etc. But what does the Bible say about Muhammed (pbuh)? A man thanks to whom many people believed in Jesus (as) and respected him (even more than the Christians), and showed respect for his mother Maria. There has to be something in the Bible about this man.

Can you read in the Old Testament in the Bible that Jesus (as) shall come? Christians will say, yes, in many places his coming is predicted. But can you find his name in the Old Testament? No, the name Jesus is nowhere mentioned in the Old Testament. Are there any details in the Old Testament, like; his mothers name will be Mary, or that he will be born in Bethlehem? No, such details aren’t mentioned in the Old Testament. Then how do you know that all these profecies about the coming of a prophet are about Jesus (as)?

We read in the Bible, Deuteronomium 18:18:

..a prophet shall I rise from within their brethren, like thee are; I shall put my words in his mouth, and he shall tell them everything I order him to say…

Who is the prophet meant in this verse? Christians will say it’s for Jesus (as). But his name isn’t mentioned! Why?

It says..a prophet like thee are…, like Moses (as). Why was Jesus (as) like Moses (as)? Christians will say; Jesus was Jewish and so was Moses, another reasons according to Christians is that Jesus was a prophet (?) en Moses too. But if these two are the only reasons, you can also apply them for the other Jewish prophets like David, Solomon, Jesaja, Daniël, etc. (pbu them all). So why would Jesus (as) be meant by this verse? The others (approximately 70 in the Old Testament were also Jewish and Prophets! So why then Jesus (as)?

Not one answer from one single Christian. What is the right answer? Jesus (as) wasn’t like Moses (as). The prophet meant in Deuteronomium 18:18 isn’t Jesus (as)!

Why isn’t Jesus (as) like Moses (as)?

  1. According to Christians, not my words but theirs; Jesus (as) is God, or the son of God. But Moses (as) is no God and no son of God either. So Jesus (as) isn’t as Moses (as).
  2. According to Christians, and these are also their own words, Jesus (as) died on the cross for the sins of people. Moses (as) didn’t, so Jesus (as) isn’t as Moses (as).
  3. According to Christians Jesus (as) Jesus was dead three days and been to hell. This is a strange thing anyway, that God would send an innocent man, a prophet to hell; or according to Christians Jesus (as) is God, so God had to go to hell for three days?!?! But that 's not important now. So Jesus (as) was dead three days and been in hell and Moses (as) wasn’t. So Jesus (as) isn’t as Moses (as)

Let’s now look at the fundament.

  1. Father and mother.

The prophet MOses (as) had a father and a mother. Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) also had a father and a mother. BUt Jesus (pbuh) on the other hand, only had a mother. No father, his birth was a miracle. So therefor Jesus (as) isn’t as Moses (as) but Mohammed (pbuh) is as Moses (as).

  1. Miraculous birth

Moses (as) and Mohammed (pbuh) were conceived and born in normal way as all of us, but Jesus (as) was born by a special miracle. Christians and muslims both believe that the birth of Jesus (as) was a miracle, therefor Jesus (as) isn’t as Moses (as), but Muhammed (pbuh) is as Moses (as).

  1. Marriage

Moses (as) and Muhammed (pbuh) were both married and had both children. But Jesus (as) was single all his life. therefor Jesus (as) isn’t as Moses (as) but Muhammed (pbuh) is as Moses (as).

  1. Acknowledged as prophet

Moses (as) and Mohammed (pbuh) had many enemies among their people, but in the end , before their death, they were both acknowledged as messengers of Allah. But Jesus (as) on the other hadn wasn’t accepted by his people and acknowledged as prophet of Allah. Read in John 1:11
He came to them, and they didn’t accept Him..

So that’s why Jesus (as) isn’t as Moses (as), but Muhammed (pbuh) is as Moses (as).

  1. Prophet and king

Moses (as) and Muhammed (pbuh) were both prophet as well as king (leader). They could judge over life and death. The receivee teh Message, and could act upon it. Eventually they lived as leaders of their people. The other prophets however, received teh message, delivered it to the people, but couldn’t act upon it, because they weren’t leaders. When Jesus (as) came, he had to come in front of Pilatus (Jewish ‘judge’) and questioned. And Pilatus asked Jesus (as) according to John 18:33: …Are Thee the King of Jewish?

Jesus (as) answered according to John 18:34: …Are you saying this from yourself, or have other spoken to you about Me?..
After further questioning Jesus (as) according to John18:36 says:…My Kingdom isn’t from this world…
This means that the kingdom of Jesus (as) was a spiritual kingdom. The kingdom of a prophet.

So therefor Jesus (as) isn’t as Moses (as), but Mohammed (pbuh) is as Moses (as).

  1. New laws

Moses (as) and Muhammed (pbuh) both brought new laws and rules for their people. When Jesus (as) came and was captured by the Jews, they didn’t think he was bringing a new religion. And Jesus (as) assured them he indeed didn’t come to preach a new religion. In Matts 5:17 we read: …Don’t think, that I have come to change the law of the prophets, but to fullfill…
so Jesus 9as) didn’t come to bring new laws and new rules, and not to change any excisting law. But he came to acknowledge the law, to fullfill it.
So that’s why Jesus (as) isn’t as Moses (as), but Muhammed (pbuh) is as Moses (as).

  1. The death

Moses (as) adn Muhammed (pbuh) both died a natural death. But Jesus (as) is according to Christians violently killed on the cross. No natural death but by crime. So that’s why Jesus (as) isn’t as Moses (as) and Muhammed (pbuh) is as Moses (as).

  1. The last resting place

Moses (as) and Muhammed (pbuh) are both burried and rest in the earth. But Jesus (as) isn’t on earth anymore, but in heaven. So that’s why Jesus (as) isn’t as Moses (as) but Muhammed (pbuh) is as Jesus (as).

These are a few points to proove a small part of the verse Deuteronomium, the part …as thee are…

We have seen that Jesus (as) isn’t as Moses (as), but Muhammed (pbuh) is as Moses. the part …as thee are… is only a small part of the verse Deuteronomium 18:18:

..A prophet shall I rise from within their brethren, as thee are; I shall put my words in his mouth, and he shall tell them what I order him to say..

Lets now look at another part of this verse

.....from within their brethren.....

God tells Moses (as) that the prophet will come from within their brethren. Not from his own people, but from their brethren. The people of Moses (as) were Jewish, so the announced prophet in Deuteronomium 18:18 isn't from the Jewish, but from the brethren of the Jewish. Who are then the brethren of the Jewish?

The prophet Abraham (as) had more wifes, two of whom Sara and Hagar. Abraham (as) had a son with Hagar, prophet Ismaël (as). Also with Sara he had a son, prophet Isaac (as). The children of Ismaël were the Arabs and Isaac (as) was the father of the Jewish. The Arabs are the brethren of the Jewish. So the prophet announced in Deuteronomium 18:18 shall come from the Arabs. Jesus (as) was a Jew, so he was one of them. So he wasn't meant in that verse. But Muhammad (pbuh) was an Arab, so he is the announced prophet in Deuteronomium 18:18.

Another aspect of that verse....I shall put my words in his mouth...
How do you put words in somebodies mouth? If I would speak a different language and you would have to repeat me.
The words you say, aren't your words. You don't even know what those words would mean. These words are the words ofthe person you hear. You only repeat them and I put them in your mouth.

Now when we look at that verse, Deuteronomium 18:18 and you read this verse, do I then put words in your mouth? No, I only put words in your mouth, if you don't know them, if you've never heard of them before. If you repeat what I tell you, then I put words in your mouth. And exactly, that way is the Quran revealed to prophet Muhammad (pbuh). He got the first revelation when he was alone in the cave Hira.

The angel Gabriël (as) said: "Read".
Muhammed (pbuh) said: "I can't read."

Little did Muhammad (pbuh) know that when he said that, another Biblical prophecy was being fullfilled, namely Jesaja 29:12
...Or the book will be given to someone who can't read, while one says : Read this; but he will answer: I can't read.

With the book is meant the revelation of God.

The angel of God said again: "Read".
Muhammed (pbuh) said again: "I can't read."
Fro the third time the angel Gabriël (as) said: Read! In the name of your Lord, Who created."

Then Muhammad (pbuh) understood he didn't have to read, but repeat what he heard. So he repeated:

"Read! In the name of your Lord, Who created. He created man from bloodclod. Read! And you Lord is the Most NOble. The One who had thaught with the pen. He has thought man that which he didn't know."

(Surah 96: Al-Alaq, sorry about bad translation)

These were the first 5 verses revealed to the Seal of the Prophets: Muhammad (pbuh) in the cave Hira.
In the following 23 years of whole his life, the Quran was revealed.

Thanks for sharing, May Allah bless you :k:

Fascinating how even after all that tampering with the bible by rabbis and priests it still has some close to original verses remaining

That’s simply marvalous. :mash:

May Allah showers you with his blessings. Ameen. :k: keep up the good work.

Good point Saif. Or we can say that Allah not only saved Quran but also the verses from Bible which authenticate the Prophethood of Mohammed :saw: and the Quran as Allah’s words.

jazzakallah khairum.

Thanks. Yes it is amazing how even in today's versions of the Bible there are still verses that are true.

Brethren is plural for brothers not separate from brothers. Brethren is infact referring to jews.

Here is another article regarding the same issue Biblical prophecies about Muhammad (saw)

But one has to understand that just because one see’s some writings of scripture one way, the other person might not necessarily ponder over 'em the same. In the end it becomes a matter of faith.

Thanks for that link. :-) Very interesting.
