i can't open any of them!
sari mojan lut gayey mughals.. besides wearing colorful frocks and jewelery the paintings may be showing that the kings were so rich while masses were poor without clothes.. dunno why Indian restaurants in west mostly show mughal paintings depicting culture whereas they rearly mention them anything close to culture anywhere else..
Oh ok, these are known as Kangra miniatures - from Rajasthan. Cute!
These are Rajputs, not mughals
sadzzz, your choice in art is amazing.
sadzz, where'd u get these from? I'd like the site name pls.:)

hang on karina.. lemme find the site again..
karina, I know some better sites if you like. But they usually cost you some money.
karina try this… but yeah as Roman said… there are better sites but require some spending
Roman, I never pay for pleasure.
Maybe that's why I never get any -
Tks sadzz!
Hmm, strange, it says 'moghul art' but as you can see it's more kangra. There's no titles or anything - oh well, it was nice seeing this stuff. I feel as if I'm sitting in Bombay Palace eating poppadums. :)
hehe.. yeah i cant find the ones i really wanted to find... hmmm cus these are really nice ones... the ones in the restaurant have a bit less detail and they use more primary colours...

karina, there is always a first time for everything. And sometimes it doesn't even hurt at first.
I think the ones you're talking about is the Omar Khayyam ones - you have this nawab leaning on a pillow, while these half nude woman feeds him grapes. The colors are usually virulent. Sometimes the woman might resemble hema malini. yuck.
you're never gonna believe this - these friends of mine have indian restaurants in HK. They have the exact photo on their card, but to save money the guy made his brother model as the nawab, and an older, married fat lady who was also a friend, hung over him with the grapes. Makes me shudder to see it.
Roman, ok I'll try it -you gonna send me a link?
ooh gross... sorrry
hmm actually they're not feeding grapes.. but they just seem to be in wierd positions and they were blouses but are transparent.... i should take a picture next time i see one...
Going back to the point Degas made earlier, I have actually seen some places where they show the common poor/average people in paintings, mostly dressed in some ethnic dresses like Pathans or Punjabis etc. I think one of those were this place I went with ChannMahi in SF area.
These guys gotta get more creative and diverse though. I'm sure by now everyone is sick of watching same sort of paintings in Indian restaurants.
hey.. Roman... just wondering, this type of art that u saw.... was it paintings or woven on carpets?? cus i think the ones ive seen are mostly the ones inprinted or woven onto carpets.. and sometimes even glass paintings..
