We used to have the black and white copy at one time, but was too young to understand what was happening, the copy has been lost :frowning: , i’m now looking forward to watching the beautiful madhubala in the repainted ‘colour’ version of Mughal-e-Azam with better quality sound and picture, although I don’t think it does much justice to the original.

Did you know that the film took ten years to make? K Asif did a marvellous job and the music by Naushad was just superb 'jab pyar kiya tho darna kya, pyar kiya koi nahi ki, chup chup ahein barna kya…wah what a track,

'How to review the film which defines how films should be made! Mughal-E-Azam was released some 44 years ago and re-wrote the rules of film making. K. Asif’s Mughal-E-Azam, starring Prithviraj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Madhubala, is a tribute to the imagination, uphill struggle and dedication of a genius.

But we wonder why the movie was colored. Why temper with a classic which looks so beautiful in Black and White. In a country which is reluctant to allow any change in its idols (remember Mayawati lost her throne thanks to the Taj Mahal episode) playing with Mughal-E-Azam is a task that required courage of the highest degree.

No we can’t review Mughal-E-Azam

There’s one answer. If it’s about the genre of black-and-white cinema there’s another. Mughal-e-Azam is a once in a century film - in its grandeur, in its characters, in its very spirit. The film took ten long years to make. And it’s as relevant in color in 2004 as it was in the 1960s, when it was first released in black-and-white. The consequence: It is only second to Veer-Zaara with two other new releases, Aitraaz and Naach, way down the ladder. So, why can’t classics be re-painted? Guide was made in color. Guru Dutt never made any color films because he wasn’t alive when the era of color movies began’.

irem, which version did you watch?

coolmunda yai color wali dekhi thee tv pe aa rai thee

wow coloured eh....i have the DVD for B&W version....its definetly a beautiful movie to watch...i have gotten so used to of B&W that i don't think i will like coloured version.

Epic film making, Dilip at his best, but at the time it came out, it didnt do too well in the box office, despite the heavy budget, and the 'colored' scene shot in sheesh-mahaal, which was a major breakthrough in the Indian cinema. The production of this movie was stopped for a long time, someone said as long as 7-8 years. Cant wait to see this repainted version.

sir dilip kumar {yousef khan} even missed the premiere of mughal-e-azam guess he can make it this time. :D a epic worth watching, madubhala 2 a complete actress, in jaisi actress lacks in todays cinema.

I dont think that any one can play the role of Akbar better than prithviraj kapoor. I never new that he was such a good actor. I have seen the color version of the movie .... and its enjoyable.

He did an amazing job! Have you noticed in that 'jab pyar kiya tu darna kya' song, he looks very old compared to the other scenes of the movie? I beleive that was shot after some years, after the production stopped.

my all time fav :D
