MUA in Ohio area

Hey guys,

Do any of you know of a hair/makeup/mehdni artist in the Ohio area (dayton/columbus…even springfield or cincinnati)? A friend of mine is looking for someone for her reception in September but we’re having no luck! :S

Please help. Thanks!

Re: MUA in Ohio area

no one knows of anyone? We're getting desperate so please please please let me know.

Re: MUA in Ohio area

Have you checked south Asian bride magazine? They have a pretty big directory of vendors across the US.

What about google? You may have to consider someone non-desi at this point.

Re: MUA in Ohio area

I googled a few people but their work (from what they emailed my friend and I ) is very western in terms of makeup. I think she's gonna go with MAC which she didn't really want to do if she could've helped it but oh well. Any advice for someone going to MAC for bridal makeup?

Re: MUA in Ohio area

Do as many trials as you need to for hair and makeup with the same person, obvs, that will do it on the day of. Wear the shirt and drape the dupatta around the face to see how it looks and to tweak any colours. Take photographs of the final look, once achieved. The MUA will likely not remember and your friend might not either. Write down all of the products used so you can recreate the look exactly.

And finally, don't dismiss other MUA's. At least go for trials with a couple. They might not have done a desi look but a skilled MUA is a skilled MUA. She should be able to do what you need if she's talented so focus on the overall look of the makeup and not necessarily on whether it's too western, kwim?

oh and in any case, take pictures of the look you want! Don't take 10 photos- take 2 or 3 that show the same kind of look so the MUA and your friend both have a reference point.

Re: MUA in Ohio area

Thank you SOOOOOO much! I definitely wouldn't have thought to take pictures and I'm sure my friend hasn't either so I'll remind her! And I hadn't really thought of what you said about "western MUA" but you're right. My friend is fair and even if she wasn't, she doesn't want the whole desi "white flour on the face" look. She was more concerned about having the eye makeup be heavier but, you're right, a good makeup artist should have the skills necessary to do that.

also, kind of off topic but you seem to know your stuff...how do you feel about airbrush makeup?

Re: MUA in Ohio area

I don't have any experience with it but from what I've read on a few blogs, it cracks easily so laugh lines and those little wrinkles can be quite visible. My MUA used kryolan and Mac on me and it was pretty flawless. Again, maybe do a trial with and see how it holds up until the end of the day and do one without. You know what, message marwah on GS. She's a makeup artist and an amazing one- you can see her stuff in the fashion and beauty forum. She would be an excellent resource. She's in NY- maybe you could fly her over!

Re: MUA in Ohio area

Thanks girl! I'll definitely do that. Yeah, I've been reading the same thing. I have the kryolan stick and I love it!

Also in terms of makeup trials, do you recommend doing a bunch and then finding an artist or just choosing an artist based on her work/contract stipulations and then just setting up a trial with her to make sure she can do the look I want...
I'm reading that people usually have trials with the makeup artist they choose but for some reason I had the impression that you did a bunch before decided on who you wanted. Though the former would probably help me save some money.
Just curious. Thank you so much! you're a lifesaver! :)

Re: MUA in Ohio area

sorry for bombarding you with so many questions :(

Re: MUA in Ohio area

^ No worries!
I would only do trials with the top two artists I'm considering. Otherwise if you know they aren't your style, it's a waste of their time and yours, and disrespectful to boot. Start off on the right foot with your vendors- it makes for a better relationship. You know? Plus, the more choices you have, the harder the decision!

Re: MUA in Ohio area

There's a couple Ulta's in the area I'm looking at... has anyone tried getting their makeup done from there? Probably not for the wedding itself but maybe for the engagement

Re: MUA in Ohio area

Ok in case anyone checks this forum out...my friend found a place! It's called gorgeous goddess and it's located in Fairborn. It's run by a really nice indian woman and she also has a Pakistani lady that does the mehndi/makeup/dupatta setting. My friend got her mehndi and dupatta setting done by them and everything looked great!
