Mumbai, November 22: A colossal lotus-shaped stage showcasing double the number of performances with a focus on Indo-Pak collaborations are lined up at this year’s MV IMMIES. Ashish Patil, vice-president and general manager, creative and content, MV gives us the low-down on all the action.

What’s new?
We felt there was not enough noise being made about the Kashmir earthquake, so the show will be themed around it. Money from ticket sales will go to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. We’ll also have an interesting auction, where stuff that money can’t buy, say a lipstick used by Bipasha and Salman’s shirt, will go under the hammer.

What is the performance line-up?
At least 11 acts this year including Irish popstar Ronan Keating. He’ll perform a 6-8 minute set with tracks like Life Is A Roller coaster and When You Say Nothing At All. Euphoria will jam with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. We’re premiering the title track from the film Zinda by Strings, with a performance by Sanjay Dutt, John Abraham, Lara Dutta and Celina Jaitley. There’s a Bipasha medley featuring her biggest hits. We’ve roped in Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy with Alisha for a Kajra Re blast. Pakistani pop singer Ali Zafar and Saif Ali Khan will host the show.

Who are the nominees in the popular awards categories?
There’s Atif Aslam, Himesh Reshammiya, Kunal Ganjawala, Shaan-KK and Udit Narayan for Best Male Singer in Hindi Films. And Abhijeet Sawant, Adnan Sami, Babul Supriyo, Rabbi Shergil and Sonu Nigam for Best Male Indipop Singer.

In the Best Female Singer category, there’s Alisha Chinai, Asha Bhosle, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan and Vasundhara Das in the Hindi Film section and Alka Yagnik, Bhosle, Pratichee and Veronica in the Indipop section.

What happened last year when half the music industry boycotted the awards?
We got caught in the crossfire for no reason. It was because of some issues between the record labels and artistes. But that’s not going to be the case this year. We’ve got Javed Akhtar and Shankar Mahadevan from Fame Gurukul also on MV almost every other day. We’re having talks with Shaan about a tie-up for his new album.

(MV IMMIES will be held at Bhavan’s College grounds, Andheri, on December 9 and will be aired on December 17)
