NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Users of Hotmail and other Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) Web services worldwide continued having trouble late Tuesday accessing their accounts.
*Microsoft Live.com and Hotmail services have been plagued with sign-in issues since early Tuesday, Microsoft said. *“We have made significant progress in decreasing the number of customers currently affected, but the issue has not yet been resolved,” Samantha McManus, Windows Live product manager, said in a statement.
Windows Live includes the popular Hotmail email service, which has more than 280 million active accounts worldwide, as well as Microsoft’s instant messaging service, photo sharing and other online services.
It’s unclear how many users are affected by the service problems.
*The issues began earlier Tuesday, Microsoft said, and caused some consumers worldwide to experience difficulty logging in to their Windows Live ID accounts. *
“We apologize for any inconvenience this particular issue has caused consumers,” McManus said in her statement.
The troubles come at a critical juncture for Microsoft, which is trying to convince Yahoo Inc. (YHOO) to accept a roughly $40 billion takeover offer.
