Any reviews? I know there’s a built-in functions library for MS-SQL integration, but is the process just as ‘smooth’ as using it with MySQL.

It's not as smooth as MySQL but I saw few classes for PHP at SourceForge.net that could make your life much easier.

I tried plugging it in with PHPbb and it was a nightmare for me.

Its very smooth, i have been using it for a while and it seems to have everything pretty much similar to MySQL Lib. Is there any particular feature you are looking for?

I tried it with phpbb as well and it sure was a nightmare. bhpbb community wasn’t able to provide much help either cuz most if not all people use mysql with phpbb. you are basically on your own trying to configure the two animals. it was pretty smooth when I did get it to work though.

well, i was more concerned about issuing queries from within the PHP environment. I think the functions for connecting with databases, pulling recordsets more or less work the same in all libs (m_sql, pg_sql, mysql..etc).

I developed the entire extranet framework for our company using Postgres, Flash and Flash Com. The challenge was not so much so to use PHP (remoting) with Postgres but to learn the actual query language PGSQL. The latter implies very strict data typing, and usage of foreign and primary keys.

Now, we are in the process of switching from .NET based Flash remoting to the open source PHP one. We have decided not to touch the database server and the flash client, just the application server and business logic part. I will most likely translate all the existing SQL and then just plug them into PHP functions. it should work..:snooty: thanks

I have converted an app for my company which was running on MySQL to MSSQL by just changing mysql to mssql for all the function calls (worked fine for me) .. in any case i am not too familiar with PGSQL so can't comment on that.

Php and MySQL combination is fast!

Forget MS-SQL.

Sh3rY ], I disagree, I think its round about the same in terms of speed. Personal prefs only. I use both. Mysql at home and my personal projects and MsSQL at work.

MySQL has got personal preference of 92% PHP developers. Enough stats to go for MySQL. MySQL really makes a better combination with PHP than anyother database server.
Oh by the way since when you are using PHP at home and work? Maybe you dont have enough exposure to compare both servers at this moment. You can easily find MySQL and MSSQL comparison chart on Google where MySQL beats, that’s theoretical. I have practically found MySQL superior.
