Mumbai, Feb 23 (IANS) Ajmal Amir Kasab, the Pakistani terrorist convicted for the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai, will appeal to the Supreme Court against the death sentence awarded to him, his lawyer said here Wednesday.
The Bombay High Court Monday upheld the death sentence the trial court awarded to Kasab for his role in the 26/11 attack.
‘In my brief meeting with Kasab, I told him that he can file appeal to the Supreme Court challenging the death sentence awarded to him,’ Kasab’s lawyer Farhana Shah said.
‘‘Hum appeal karenge’ (I will appeal), Kasab told me,’ Shah added.
Shah, however, mentioned that she is yet to receive the copy of the order of the Bombay High Court.
‘The process of filing an appeal in the Supreme Court can be started only after we receive an order copy,’ she said.
A division bench of the Bombay High Court comprising Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice R.V. More dismissed Kasab’s appeal challenging the death sentence given to him by Special Judge M.L. Tahaliyani in May 2010.
A total of 166 people were killed in the mayhem let loose by Kasab and nine other Pakistani gunmen during the 60-hour Mumbai terror attacks. While he was caught alive, the nine other terrorists were kileld in gun battles with the security forces.

India has given a whole new meaning to *Atithi Devo Bhava *i.e. Guest is like God :D Kasab has enjoyed 5-star treatment in Arthur Road jail, much better facilities than what he probably got at home. We should stop wasting the tax payers money and give him what he deserves. Its not as if the case is based on circumstantial evidence; the whole world has probably seen viedo footage of Kasab's killing spree.

I recall reading that the state has thus far spent over Rs. 50 crore on the wellbeing of Kasab (Money spent on his lawyers, security, transportation, doctors and food). He sure is one expensive bloke to maintain.

This is a democratic country and we have a legal system in place.We can not just go for some swift trials and punishments,Ofcourse he has received a 5 star treatment and all other stuffs but he values much ore than that.He was the only gunman caught alive and divulged us with some very important and vital infos.

Kasab probably told us whatever he knew in the first 24 hours of his interrogation, and he has been a state guest for more than 2 years :)

^Yes but still according to Indian law,he had to be tried and he had to stand for a trial.
Lets not use democracy as an excuse for slow legal process. US is also a democracy, but the legal process here is a lot more swift & efficient. I am sure you have heard of fast track courts ?
In India we even have people like Afzal Guru sitting on death row for years, while our unscruplous leaders use that to play politics. I just hope that Kasab does not become another Afzal Guru and a waste of tax payers money.

As soon as supreme court confirms the sentence, his mercy plea will reach to the office of president, he will remain alive for next 10 years. congress party will do all politics on it.

have you noticed Faizal Shazad case, US court convicted him and punished him with in months.
and in india it takes months in lower court and then higher courts and finally presidential pardon.

My personal view is if he is guilty then he is to be executed… He should have known better… Besides I’m suprised he wants to live obviously he was never commited then he just had a murderous itch… he scratched it now he has to pay for it.
