**Junaid Jamshed is facing harsh criticism over his veiw on Women behind wheels…
This is a matter of debate here in Saudi, whether women should drive or not…****Wht u guys think of this statement of JJ’S..
I grew up listening to Junaid Jamshed songs, from when he was in, to the time he went solo.**
Yes, I was one of the big fans. Most of us were shocked to see him take a 180 degree turn when he suddenly stopped making music, but with time we accepted it.
It was only recently that I heard him talk about his beliefs in a morning talk show – and felt no appreciation for my favourite artist. While going through TV channels at night to watch something interesting, I came across a channel showing a rerun of a morning show with Junaid Jamshed on it.
The female host had her head covered in a full hijab this time. I have no idea what he had said to her before the show, but when I tuned in, I heard this,“If you want to live a happy life, don’t teach your wife how to drive a car or a motorcycle.”
Now I don’t consider myself a feminist, but this drove me up the wall. What about basic rights? Why should a woman in this day, age and country not be allowed to drive a car? Why does she have to stay home?
The host asked what a woman was supposed to do in a case where she had no husband? Mr Jamshed said that he didn’t want to answer questions based on hypothetical situations.
Later, he was heard saying that if such a thing did happen, God will help her.
One could easily figure out that the host didn’t know what to say, and by this time I had changed the channel.
What disturbs me the most is that this was a man who people used to idolise; many people, thus, were and still are influenced by him.
Can you even imagine how many husbands and brothers will not be telling their wives and daughters that they cannot drive?
Knowing our impressionable and fanatical society, my guess is that many have taken heed and we are on the road to becoming even more backward than we already were – scary thoughts, I know, but true nonetheless.
Being a working female who doesn’t know how to drive (by choice, and laziness, certainly not by force). I thought to myself: if my husband or father stopped me from driving or going out with friends, or working, I won’t know what to do with my life.
Is a woman only born to take care of a house, her husband and children? I’m not sure if these ideas have anything to do with religion, or as a result of a certain mindset which has nothing to do with religion or ones mentality.
One thing is true, Junaid Jamshed did leave me speechless.
mm i also dont agree with with what mr jamshed is saying, i think was a couple of weeks ago i was watching his interveiw on one of the moring shows, he was talking about his wife and that i will never allow her to drive no man should let their wives drive etc, but dosent he realise that in this stage and age women have to drive its become a big necessity, taking kids to school, taking them to the mosque, groceries etc its less pressure on them.
i really do not understand what he is trying to state
Preaching aside you should see him asking for ‘Chanda’ on these talk shows, the rage he shows is quiet pathetic
He’s been annoying me for years now, dude seriously needs to cork it, 900 chuhay kha kay bily chali hajj koo
this is quite a surprising and absurd statement to be made by him. But then again people should learn to differentiate b/w personal opinion and practically preaching.
how is he being happy by not letting his wifey drive? she needs some lessons in eternal nagging. then he’ll be like, woman just go.. take the car, truck, rocket, UFO, camel, elephant, whatever…
Yeah…if there were other comments made by JJ that countered the opinion expressed then do share NomiCA.
We certainly wouldn’t want to dismiss him without having all the facts.
exactly. he might have made those comments just as a joke or to add some humor to otherwise a dull disscussion. If he had said if you want to achieve jannat then do not tech your wife driving I would also have an issue with it.
That is how media portray religious people evil and urge you people on bashing them by asking “controversial” questions from them . different sect had different takes on this issue. bai, why don’t you ask Junaid Jamshed, about punishment of Allah (SWT) on doing sins.
I think Mr Jamshed should be speaking a bit more responsibly when he knows he is being watched by an entire nation (and across the globe) of impressionable people. It makes no sense to condemn female drivers on TV when you have every idea that your words might convince people to do as you say or even reinforce the idea that Pakistanis are extremists who don’t allow women to breathe.
I expect more from a public figure…he isn’t a child. He has spent his life in the public eye…he shouldn’t be interviewed if he cannot behave himself. Its not his fault…the blame lies on whoever put him on TV.
Junaid jamshed is on the tableeghi path and if you have met any of the tableeghi brothers, you would know how much they are in tune with the world.
Now, isn’t afridi following in the footsteps as well? No wonder he did that drama of doing namaz on the pitch, but pakistan lost the next day. Now, what kind of message is that sending Mr. Afridi? Before all the pseudo-islamists jump in, I have more respect for pakistani bowlers who played while fasting (yeah look them up) but there was no namaz drama on the field.
