Re: MQM’s Saulat Mirza is set to be executed on Mar. 19th - Postponed [UPDATED]
Nope. You said his confession holds no legal weight which is totally incorrect. If he repeats his confession in front of the Magistrate, his confession will become legally acceptable and relevant, and would be used by the Prosecution. This is a fact! After that whether his confession alone is enough to prosecute Altaf Hussain or not is a completely different matter. So let’s not jump the gun.
However, you are correct and in agreement with me on one thing. I said in my last post that confessions are not the sole criteria to prosecute anyone if the police finds no evidence to support the confession in question. Remember it is the job of police and the law enforcement agencies to use confession as gateway to launch complex investigation in order find more evidence, and present it to the court. It is not the job of the victim or a prisoner who had been in jail for years! These people can only give useful information.
I can give you hundreds of cases due to the nature of the confession alone, police had launched massive and absolutely thorough investigations on the basis of essential intelligence and highly sensitive inside information provided by the whistle-blowers. This is how legal system works!
I can tell you that solely on the basis of Salaut Mirza’s confession, Police can actually justify getting a search warrant againt all those high profile names he would mention! Considering how seriously these things are taken in the legal world, I find it ridiculous to see people being fashionably or habitually cynical by discrediting and dismissing such serious aspect of legal investigation by spreading false information.
