Can some one from Karachi please help me understand this? Is MQMs hold over Karachi weakening or the traders have gotten fed up with the shutter downs every other day?

Its simple. In past, people had no trust in law enforcing agencies. Actually, police used to hide in police stations on such occasions.
Now, rangers troops start patrolling after announcement of strikes and therefore people continue with their routine. I think MQM also took back announcement of strike late night, after Rangers announced that no one will be allowed to get shops closed.
Good riddance. Hope this continues.

What rangers did it in Karachi, non had done so much cleaning work since decades. They should stay there till complete cleaning of Karachi. Spare no one, hang the culprits who made Karachi as hostage for last so many years.

Without it's killers shooting innocent people, MQM cannot control Karachi. MQM killers are cowards, running away as soon with more guns shoots back.
Well done to Gen.Sharif, Gen.Akhtar, and Rangers, helping to erase the mess left by Musharraf and other Generals.
They should spread their operation to the rest of Sindh and Punjab.

Rangers have been in Karachi since 1991-2, its only that they started being functional again otherwise they were just sitting/leeches until now. I believe its the top of army who should get credit.

Agreed I still remember how they occupied KU.
