Re: MQM leader Imran Farooq killed in London: reports

Imran Farooq was expelled from MQM couple of years ago. He had differences with Altaf Hussein and seems to have met the same fate as the other comrade Azim Ahmed Tariq. He was also among the NRo beneficeries of NRO, when 7 murder and 3 attempted murder cases were withdrawn. Do a quick google search of his name and you will find that since his differences with Altaf some people were already saying that his life is in danger.

Re: MQM leader Imran Farooq killed in London: reports

Check out the dramay bazi by Altaf Hussain "saddened" by the killing.

Hopefully Karachi will not see hangama-araai because of this killing.

Re: MQM leader Imran Farooq killed in London: reports

Re: MQM leader Imran Farooq killed in London: reports

There are very strong chances that someone from MQM inside might have been given this assignment to kill him like so many other late MQM activists. The (big) difference is that for the first time some MQM activist died outside Pakistan and also that he was the 2nd top leader after Dr. Azeem tariq since MQM's inception.

The most fishy thing is that it happened when as per MQM's secretariat, he was on 10 days leave due to personal circumstances.

As per police, he was coming back from his daily walk, so not sure what was the reason behind his leave. Atleast he was not totally enjoying the vacations.

So now, after him Saleem Shehzad is the only left leader in london from MQM's pre-govt era.

Dr Farooq, 50, was repeatedly stabbed in the head and neck during the assault in Edgware, north London.

He was a leading member of the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) party, which is one of the largest in Pakistan.

There were suggestions from Pakistan that he may have known his killer. When police arrived at the scene, they found Dr Farooq’s body outside his house.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said officers attended an address in Green Lane, Edgware, shortly before 5.30pm after reports of a serious assault. “On arrival, officers found a single Asian man aged 50 with multiple stab wounds and head injuries,” the spokesman said.
“Paramedics attended the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Next of kin have been informed and no arrests have been made.
Dr Farooq was expected to attend a birthday celebration at the MQM headquarters on London’s Edgware Road on Thursday night but the event was cancelled at the last minute. Police said it was too early to know if the murder was politically motivated.
The politician claimed asylum in Britain after spending seven years on the run as one of Pakistan’s most wanted fugitives. He was accused of a range of charges, including murder and torture.
He has not returned to Pakistan since his arrival in England in 1992.
He claimed that year that he was wanted “dead or alive”.
“[This gave] licence and impunity to every individual in Pakistan to assassinate me,” he said.
Dr Farooq said he spent more than seven years in hiding in Karachi, southern Pakistan. He continued: “It was impossible for me to remain in Pakistan due to the continued threat on my life and liberty.”
He insisted the claims against him in Pakistan were politically motivated and continued his involvement with the party from Britain.
Last month Raza Haider, another MQM member, was gunned down with his guard as he attended a funeral near the centre of Karachi. The killing triggered violence in which dozens of people were killed and at least 100 wounded.
Azeem Tariq, the former chairman, was murdered in Karachi 13 years ago. Intruders entered his home and shot him as he slept.
MQM, based in Karachi, is the fourth largest party in Pakistan and is part of the ruling coalition government. It has a strong anti-Taliban stance, although rivals accuse it of exaggerating the threat of the Taliban.
The party represents mainly descendants of Urdu-speaking migrants from India who settled in Pakistan when it was created in 1947.
London has played host to many of Pakistan’s exiled politicians. Gen Pervez Musharraf, the former president, lives in self-imposed exile in London.

Pakistani politician Imran Farooq murdered in London

An exiled Pakistani politician has been murdered outside his home in north London, party leaders have said.

Imran Farooq, a senior member of the MQM party, is believed to have been attacked in Green Lane, Edgware.

The Metropolitan Police said a 50-year-old man had died after suffering multiple stab wounds and head injuries.

They were called to reports of a serious assault at 1730 BST. The man was treated by paramedics but declared dead at the scene about an hour later.

Mr Farooq’s next of kin have been informed. No arrests have been made.
Security forces

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "When officers arrived they found an Asian male, aged 50, suffering from multiple stab wounds and head injuries.

“He was treated by paramedics at the scene but was pronounced dead at 1837.”

Mr Farooq disappeared from Pakistan in 1992 and is known to have been living in exile in London since 1999, when he claimed asylum in the UK.

He is understood to have been wanted by security forces and said in 1999 he had spent the previous seven years in hiding in Karachi.

The MQM (Muttahida Quami Movement) is the dominant party in Pakistan’s largest city Karachi.
‘Violent’ past

The former Pakistani parliamentarian was one of the founding members of the party.

The BBC’s Shoaib Hasan in Karachi said he had spoken to party members and said “there’s a lot of grief and a lot of sorrow going around”.

He said: “I spoke to an MQM leader who was at the home of Imran Farooq in Karachi with his parents. They said that they are relying totally on the Metropolitan Police, that they have great faith in the Metropolitan Police.”

Mr Hasan said Mr Farooq was in essence the party’s deputy leader and added he had not returned to Pakistan since his arrival in England in the 1990s.

He said the MQM had a “violent” past.

In 1999 Mr Farooq told the BBC charges against him in his home country were politically motivated.

At the time he said he intended to campaign against the then government of Pakistan from exile in Britain.

Re: MQM leader Imran Farooq killed in London: reports

most definitely an inside job

Re: MQM leader Imran Farooq killed in London: reports

I remember the era of "pre-operation" and during operation of army. Dr. Imran farooq was termed as the "brain" of MQM. He was given the highest regard in all the workers meetings. All the internal matters were run by his orders. Especially the military-wing reported directly to him. When Altaf hussain left for london and immediately after that the operation was started, he took the tactical control of all MQM activities. It was said that he already knew all ins and outs of operation based on his "experience" and contacts despite being a fugitive himself.
Rangers used to smell for him everywhere.

Once he got caught sorrounded by Rangers in "S" block of North nazimabad and was almost caught but all the hidden activitsts came out and started riots all over the karachi attacking rangers everywhere which helped him run by the mountains behind North nazimabad. Later it was known that he's in some western embassy and then further that Akbar bugti has given him asylum at his place in Baluchistan.

And before he reappeared in London, there was no news about him for almost a year and nobody was sure whether he was alive or no.

Its sad but a lesson for everyone I guess that death couldnt touch a man when he was most wanted. But when he started living a dream life, he died in the almost same fashion which allegedly used to be his expert area.

Re: MQM leader Imran Farooq killed in London: reports

^ interesting.

so why did Bugti give refuge to him? what was the connection between them?

Re: MQM leader Imran Farooq killed in London: reports

I don't get it.

Why stab him to death?

Why not use a silencer pistol and shoot him? thats more clean and faster....

Something is not right here...

this does not look like a professional assassination....

Re: MQM leader Imran Farooq killed in London: reports

Cuz Bugti had a direct connection with Altaf hussain. Remember how MQM protested on Bugti's death despite being strong govt. ally.
