MQM gave government 48 hours ultimatum

I agree but MQM is such a VIRUS that we have to learn to live with it.
Every single karachiite i have met HATES them but they keep getting more and more seats in every election.

If force is used against MQM, they will destroy whole karachi so that is definitely not the option. We can only hope that next generation of MQM leaders are more sensible than the current ones. I am sure there are nice people in MQM and they only joined this party to cash in on huge muhajir vote bank.

:D

Re: MQM gave government 48 hours ultimatum

Amazing really................Altaf said that the biggest problem of Pakistan is the feudal hold of the democracy.......at the same time he is in a govt with those feudals......he hates dictators but was all the way with Musharaf..........so dictators and feudals are bad but as long as he gets a few ministries he can live with it for the "greater cause".

how come MQM supporters dont see this ?

Re: MQM gave government 48 hours ultimatum

babar gauri was crying on geo tv!!! such cry babies!!!

Slogans were Zardari kutta hai hai…go Zardari go…etc etc..

People shouted these slogans not because Zardari is Sindhi, but whatever he was doing…similar slogans were shouted against Ayub Khan, Musharraf and Zia ul Haq in the past.

Altaf is trying to be extra loyal to zardari…and is playing the Sindh card to undermine this glorious people’s victory for all the people of Pakistan…

Sindh nationalists stand for return of judges

WASHINGTON/ISLAMABAD: The US capital and the world is watching for the ultimate battle on the D-Day on Monday in what has now turned into a fatal fight to the finish between two personalities — President Asif Zardari and Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Only one will survive.

Zardari has all the power that anyone can muster in any country, but he also has the biggest stakes on line. His power grab in the last few months is not helping him and he is fighting a losing battle.

Iftikhar Chaudhry has no powers but he has the entire country behind him and that makes him the most powerful commander leading his troops to ultimate victory. His troops, Nawaz Sharif, Ali Kurd, Aitzaz Ahsan, the media, lawyers, politicians, rights activists and the people at large have been deceived so many times that no more promises or assurances of the Zardari camp carry any weight. Thus foreign guarantors are being sucked into the equation.

The Army, the ultimate protector of the external and internal security fronts, has been caught in a dangerous bind. While it was hard pressed fighting the terrorists and their creeping coups, President Zardari has opened a much wider and a potentially suicidal confrontation which had brought the entire country to a standstill, even before the long march could start or converge at a point.

The Army is in no position to fight such a divisive and extended war with its own people, for the interests of a few misguided and incompetent leaders who failed to grow into the large shoes they landed in, by the stroke of luck after the ultimate sacrifice of Benazir Bhutto.

While leaders like Maulana Fazlur Rehman are, in sheer desperation, trying to give the phenomenal rising of the people for a national cause the colour of a possible threat to the federation, all those leading the movement have repeatedly said the objective of their struggle is to attain the objective of reinstatement of Nov 2 judiciary and not to dislodge the present PPP government.

Mian Nawaz Sharif, Qazi Hussain Ahmad, Imran Khan and the lawyers’ leadership have said in one voice that the government must listen to what the nation demands. The Jamaat-e-Islami chief has even asked Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani to use his pressure on the government to meet the public demand for the independence of judiciary instead of exploiting such a situation for a military intervention to grab power, a la Ziaul Haq or Musharraf.

Given the public mood and the thinking of the political leaders military intervention is not possible and would be strongly resisted if foolishly resorted to. Critical mistakes have been made by Zardari-controlled war room, set up in the bunker inside the presidency.

When Punjab was forcibly taken over by the governor to physically stop the long march and the entire transport system, official and private, was hijacked to block every road, two days before the D-Day word was sent out that the Shahbaz Sharif government was being restored in a few days.

Given our bureaucratic mindset, the entire Punjab administration was paralysed that very moment because no officer, junior or senior, would take action against an ousted chief minister or his party, if he was to regain power in a few days.

Hence there are numerous reports that the Punjab police and the administration was helping the Sharifs break the barriers or even smuggle them in police vehicles to dodge orders of a governor who was about to be sacked. It is simple logic.

A senior government official, who drove to Islamabad from Lahore hours before the long march started towards Islamabad, reported the mood of the civil administration and the police in Punjab had changed altogether. He said officials were no more inclined to block the long march because they themselves had felt the change in the wind.

He claimed if a police force of 23,000 and other security personnel deployed in Lahore could not prevent the Lahorites from coming out on the streets despite the use of brutal police force and teargas, the long march would smoothly move toward Islamabad as the other districts do not have enough force to face huge crowds.

According to a report, high-ranking police officers, of SSP rank and above, rushed inside the Lahore High Court and made speeches, apologising to the lawyers and the civil society. They said whatever had happened was wrong and from now on they won’t be a part of it. Rich traders of Lahore also come to the high court and categorically blamed it all on President Zardari. People were not chanting ‘Zardari ko jana hoga!’, rather they were saying, ‘Zardari to gaya!’

**Asif Zardari has always been in a hurry to blow up the system that he suddenly inherited 14 months ago. He has overstretched his desire to become ‘General’ Asif Zardari, following in the footsteps of Gen Musharraf, for whom he still carries a soft spot.

Zardari began where Musharraf had peaked in terms of power. He had everything going for him, a supportive people, a unanimous parliament, a friendly opposition, a lovable media, a world ready to help. But he could not grasp the opportunity or even fathom the critical role he had been swept in. His destructive politics has led him to the present pass.

The last card he has, and he has been saying this in private for some time, is the ultimate “Sindh card” which had been used off and on by Sindhi leaders when they were in trouble or cornered because of their failed policies or strategies. Zardari using the Sindh card would be an ultimate joke with the people.

Why this appears a last ditch desperate effort is obvious as his cronies and loyalists like Rehman Malik and the foxy Maulana Fazlur Rehman have started raising this bogey. Malik has been referring to the “East Pakistan like” situation whereas nothing like it exists on the ground.

Even in Sindh all the nationalists led my Mumtaz Bhutto, GM Syed Group, Rasool Bux Paleejo, the nationalists of other provinces including the Bizenjos, Mengals, Marris of Balochistan and even the coalition partners Bilors of Peshawar have been looking at the situation as a fight for an independent judiciary and not a threat to the federation. Most have been very vocal in support of the judges.**

Zardari does not realise that he has pushed himself to the wrong side of the political, civil and intellectual spectrum. While everyone is clamouring for judicial independence, and everyone includes top judges, lawyers, politicians, journalists, even generals and bureaucrats, using the Sindh card would be nothing but an act of desperation signalling acceptance of defeat.

The argument that the PPP was being victimised once again will hold no water as the present shape of the Zardari-led PPP is not what Benazir Bhutto’s PPP looked like and stood for. Benazir Bhutto’s jiyalas are no longer jiyalas of Zardari, they have been sidelined and it has been proved beyond doubt that Zardari does not stand for what Benazir wanted or struggled for.

Thus all the Sindhi PPP and non-PPP stalwarts, including even Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Nawab Yousuf Talpur, the Jatois, Bhuttos et al, will not let Zardari use the Sindh card. It is in fact no card at all.

I believe this ultimatum was given while thinking Zardari will not buckle and not let CJ come back and things will get worse then MQM will split with PPP. Anyways, now that AZ has buckled and CJ is being reinstated this ultimatum will expire without any action :hehe:

Re: MQM gave government 48 hours ultimatum

^^^^u mean they will not leave the govt..

haha yep, whats sad is that none of his brain dead supporters in his rallies can tell how fake that roona dhoona is!

yep, they'd leave the govt at the first sight of govt falling :D.

you are right they have history of wrong decisions at wrong time, and this is one of them.

i would like to tell you some of the most prominent fact of this Lawyers movement this movement has proven one more thing certain national political entities we used to think are anti pakistan are actually are for pakistan and this movement has support of all nationalists parties in sindh, balochistan for
rasool Bux palijo : although he aint much of nationalist but an ideological and intellectual person and i saw tear in his eyes in lahore, you know all his life he is fought against so called punjabi establishment he said today lahore had taken the lead.

what is more important that i see is awareness and sensitivity to national issues has increased considerably in punjab specially urban which was non existant 4-5 years back at this scale.

whatever happens next but today history has been made and in my assesment we are moving in right direction brick by brick and nothing can stop this transformation ending on positive note unless some major disaster happens and inshAllah it wont happen.

i belived in Pakistan and today my Belief has compunded we can make a difference if we act.

This is a victory for the people and for our young democracy.

We will face dictators and corrupt terrorist's trying to break Pakistan, our road down this democratic path may be rocky at times

But if we continue down the way of justice and democracy, we will be fine. :)

Re: MQM gave government 48 hours ultimatum

Long Live Pakistan!

The back pedalling from the mota did not take long

MQM withdraws decision of separation from govt

KARACHI: Muttehadda Qaumi Movement (MQM) has taken back its decision to be separated from the provincial and federal government.

This has been said in the statement issued from the MQM that this decision has been taken in view of the present situation and progress in the national reconciliation process.

The MQM had made the decision to quit the government after slogans raised against Sindh

Re: MQM gave government 48 hours ultimatum

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Does that mean Altaf wont cry?

Re: MQM gave government 48 hours ultimatum

Hats off to MQM..............they do it without any shame

Re: MQM gave government 48 hours ultimatum

thank god the govt paid heed to altaf's notice and he took the ultimatum back otherwise he'd walk his own long march from london to karachi.... all high and chewing tambacco wala paan.

Re: MQM gave government 48 hours ultimatum

^^ i think global recession and current bust in the UAE real estate market was the real reason y altaf decided to stay in govt. his properties in UAE and other parts may have lost their value and he need continous income to meet his expenses in London... so he decided to stay in govt and enjoy the bhata he is getting from Karachi.

Re: MQM gave government 48 hours ultimatum

The LTT of Pakistan has proved gizzillionth time that it dances on Military's tune. Whenever Millitary and establishment is in trouble MQM puts pressure with (10,000 BC old) threat tactics.

This time they have 'mooh ki khaai'. Right ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: MQM gave government 48 hours ultimatum

PPP has been fractured right from the middle after this crisis. MQM seems to be supporting one of those factions.

PPP, MQM rally against PML-N

By Irfan Ali

KARACHI: The supporters of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) flocked to MA Jinnah Road to participate in the PPP rally held on Wednesday in support of President Asif Ali Zardari, in the face of the malicious propaganda being carried out against him by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

In one sentence, they rejected the criticism conveying their message that PPP’s supporters do not need to test a time-tested leader like Zardari.

PPP also warned that the people will not pardon those who attack democracy. PPP leaders vowed that they will offer their lives simply on an order from PPP’s chief Asif Zardari. With PPP’s tri-coloured flags fluttering in the sky, portraits of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and Asif Zardari on display, they raised slogans in support of Zardari.

“Do you want another sacrifice from us after the martyrdom of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Murtaza and Shahnawaz Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto,” Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah asked speaking at the large rally near Jamia Cloth Market.

Muttahidda Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Shoaib Bukhari, Raza Haroon and Waseem Aftab also joined the rally to express their support to Zardari.

“First MQM had given you a reply by staging a mass rally here and now it is the final answer to you, Nawaz Sharif, that thousands of people reject your allegations against the unity of Pakistan,” he said.

To ensure foolproof security arrangements, PPP’s security team coordinated with the police and Rangers. The points leading to the route of the rally were sealed. Body searches were conducted on everyone before they were allowed to enter the venue of the rally.

PPP and MQM leaders were sitting on an overhead-bridge near Civil Hospital, Karachi while workers and supporters were sitting on the floor or standing. Alternate arrangements were made for vehicular traffic and it was diverted from Jamia Cloth intersection to Merewether Tower. Shah said that Sharif was struggling to come into power through backdoor channels, unconstitutional and undemocratic means. He said that the sacked chief justice took oath under the PCO twice and also validated the military take over that dislodged the Nawaz-led government on October 12, 1999. He declared the attack on the Sri Lankan cricketers a deep-rooted conspiracy that was not hatched in one day.

“You will not be able to oust the democratically elected government that was established after a long struggle and after a great sacrifice by Benazir Bhutto,” he said.

Shah reminded the PML-N that three provincial assemblies trusted and nominated Zardari for presidency and he was voted for by all four provincial assemblies unlike the PML-N’s candidate.

He said that Zardari had enjoyed the confidence of all four provinces because of his national reconciliatory politics. Shah said that Zardari had the majority of three provinces while he had a considerable number of votes from the Punjab Assembly too.

PPP’s supporters were at ease on the venue. Some people were serving drinking water and some were offering food items to the participants of the rally. Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Khuhro warned the PML-N chief that his artificial crisis might pave the way for intervention from undemocratic forces.

“PPP’s members and supporters are capable of defending Pakistan, its people, Zardari and the PPP-led government. Beware of the consequences of conspiracies against the elected government,” Khuhro further said. He said PPP’s good intentions were welcomed and Pakistan is witnessing the politics of reconciliation due to PPP’s practical steps for harmony and cohesion.

Employees of PIA, HBFC, PQA, People’s Doctors’ Forum members, paramedical staff, Lawyers Forum, women wing, PSF, Labour Bureau, Youth Wing and Cultural Wing turned out to stage a successful show of strength.

PPP Karachi Chapter chief Faisal Abedi said that the PPP and its allied parties sacrificed the lives of their members for the sake of an independent judiciary but the sacked chief justice did not even have the time to condole the PPP workers’ death. He said he had arranged this rally on a 22 hours notice. He said if he was asked to plan the rally 15 days ago, countless people from Karachi to Islamabad would have participated in the rally. He thanked the MQM for their support.

MQM’s leaders Shoaib Bukhari and Raza Haroon said that MQM’s support to the PPP-led government was not an alliance between political parties or the coalition partners but in fact, it is an alliance of the hearts and minds of the people of Sindh. “Those who desecrated the monument of Benazir Bhutto are narrow-minded. Benazir Bhutto is a popular leader and her party took revenge by establishing democracy,” Shoaib Bukhari said.

He said that MQM and PPP’s reconciliation and alliance was for the welfare and stability of Pakistan. He urged the rival parties to be aware of the internal and external dangers.

MQM and PPP leaders said that Sharif considered himself a political leader by speaking at a gathering of 400 people.

Re: MQM gave government 48 hours ultimatum

Which PPP though? The senior, seasoned members of it who seem to be distancing themselves from Zardari and his chosen inner circle or the new unofficial ones along with somewhat known members?
