MQM exiles get green signal for return

NISAR MEHDI

KARACHI - In view of the amnesty granted by the
govt under National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and return of PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto to Pakistan, political activities have started to pick up momentum throughout the country and MQM has also decided that its top leadership which is living in exile will return to Pakistan.

Sources in MQM disclosed to TheNation Wednesday that it has been decided that various party leaders living in exile in UK and US would be sent back to Pakistan to boost party preparations for the next elections as this would be the first election in MQM’s history in which the party would contest from across the country. Well informed sources in the party said that a high-level party meeting had decided that MQM leadership would return to the country to support the Pakistan-based leadership.

The leaders likely to return home for the electoral process would be MQM’s Coordination Committee Deputy convener Tariq Javed, alongwith other members of MQM Coordination Committee Muhammad Ashfaq, Javed Kazmi and Mustafa Azizabadi. Other top leaders and diehard workers expected to return home are former Federal Minister Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, former legislators Anees Advocate and Zulfiqar Haider. It may be noted that MQM’s aforesaid leaders who are likely to return home were allegedly accused in several cases and MQM claimed that they were fake cases.

Re: MQM exiles get green signal for return.

Hooray for democracy. If that’s what the electorate want, then who are we to stop them from electing the people they want. :k:

God Bless President Musharaf for taking Pakistan on the path of democracy. :jhanda:

Re: MQM exiles get green signal for return.

Does Pakistan have any charges pending against Altaf?

Also, doesn't his British citizenship disqualify him from being eligible for political activity in Pakistan?

Re: MQM exiles get green signal for return.

Yep, but thats on hold for time being.

No, b/c I think he has dual citizenship.

Re: MQM exiles get green signal for return.

Lots of MQM supporters were amongst the welcoming committe to greet BB, and she is receiving calls from Altaf so this is not surprising.

Re: MQM exiles get green signal for return.

Mashallah. Good to see BB and MQM putting their differences aside and helping Pakistan. :k:

Re: MQM exiles get green signal for return.

Just like they helped Pakistan in 1980s and 1990s, thank you Musharraf :k:

Re: MQM exiles get green signal for return.

Its not the charges he fears... he fears for his life and hes already said someone in his party will take him out. Btw, ever seen video footage of a big black whale on the shore being blasted to pieces?

Re: MQM exiles get green signal for return.

MQM and PPP need to move on from Altaf and BB. There are positives and negatives in both parties.

Positives:
1. PPP has had more educated and capable people than PML.
2. MQM never ever supported mullahs in their history.

Negatives:
1. PPP has supported mullahs
2. MQM ran a ganster style politics

Nonetheless both have the mandate and with Musharaf in charge, good folks in these parties can take the driving seat and take nation to a better safer and properous future. Nothing wrong with being optimistic.
