KARACHI: The heat has been building since November 28 when the Supreme Court called for electoral constituencies to be redrawn in Karachi in a bid to ease the homicide rate. On Sunday, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) came out with all its fury, demanding that the judges apologise for “insulting people of the city”.
“It is not the job of the judges to decide electoral constituencies,” said MQM chief Altaf Hussain, speaking to tens of thousands of people at a congregation. “The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is responsible for that.”
Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry should take suo moto notice of the special Supreme Court bench, which made irresponsible remarks on the delimitation of constituencies while hearing a case on the poor law and order in the city, he said.
In a speech laden with references from Islamic scriptures, he said that the MQM’s enemies were using the Supreme Court to wipe out his party. “The order is against democracy. Only people have the right to decide which party holds a majority.”
Other party leaders said that the MQM believes it is being cornered to make way for other political forces in its stronghold of Karachi. “For us this order is just a manifestation of some greater plan and we will resist it,” said a leader on the sidelines of the gathering.
Perhaps he wants the CJ to pay a visit to Nine Zero and align himself with the MQM. Instead of all this drama, why does not he simply challenge the verdict through proper channels?
Again you are forgetting how CJ got wonderful reception in Karachi on 12th May 2007. CJ is afraid of two entities, where he does not dare to give any decision.

He wasted his time in Karachi for many weeks when he was hearing cases of target killings. He refused to accept ZM, who was volunteered to provide proofs against target killings. He had no balls then, he has no balls now to give any tangible decision in the interest of Pakistan on above two entities. Therefore Army and AH are more powerful than CJ of Pakistan. That is the fact every one should accept it.

Karachi ka har idaara, police, utilities, municipal authorities, civil works, land authorities, courts, public welfare services, transportation, ports, tax collection etc. everything. Aisa kar do aur dekho Karachi na sirf pur-aman ho jaye ga balkay prosperous bhi.

Court ruling could undermine MQM's grip on Khi. No wonder Don of London is coming out against this...he may have to drive cab again for living instead of living off of extortion in Karachi.

What? He bashed present government all the time. His all decisions are against present PPP government. He is not neutral CJ. Why the present PPP government should support him on this decision?

If you think decision is in accord with principles of justice then you should support CJ on this decision as it is govt policy of being neutral and fair.
