For all the techy ppl I was just wondering which MP3 player is the best in terms of:
long lasting battery
can load songs from cd’s and other sources
looks pretty
easy to use
not expensive
I want to use it for travel purposes or to go to the gym and not have to waste my money on buying batteries (which half the time my cd player breaks down batteries aren’t available )
I know there is the iPod but I believe u can only download songs from iTunes and you have to pay extra for that. I am sure their aren’t any desi songs.
Well, I had a bunch of songs on my PC before i even started using Ipod...u just have to get a separate music downloading service like kazaa or morpheus. Plus u can also upload songs from your CDs onto Itunes. One thing about the ipod though, the battery isn't the best. It uses up a lot of power quickly, but it lasts 8 hours or so..
Hold on. iPod is a hard-drive based MP3 player, which is not suitable at all, if using the MP3 player during exercise at the gym is one of your requirements. If you plan on using MP3 player while running/jogging/etc, you need a flash-memory based MP3 player. Apple's new Shuffle is probably good, but it has many other problems.
iTunes is two-in-one. Firstly it is a software that is downloaded into your computer (or installed via CD) that organizes all your music collection. Also iTunes.com is the music store from where you can buy new music, though it is just for english music, mostly. You can move all your Indian/Pakistani/International collection into iPod very easily through iTunes software, by ripping your CD's or downloading songs from any website of your choice, as long as they are in a valid audio format (MP3, WMA, WAV etc). Thats not a problem.
As far as value for money, iPod is not such a good deal. Creative Zen is probably better. iPod definitely gets better marks for ease of use and coolness factor. But Zen offers more memory and more features for the same price. iPod does not offer FM tuner or direct line-in recording either. As mentioned earlier, both Zen and iPod are hard-disk based MP3 players. There are tonnes of failry inexpensive flash-based players, but they hold much less number of songs. Upside is that they are completely prone to movement and will not skip if you have them on while running or jogging.
To improve battery life, don’t use the back-lighting, and switch off the Equivalizer (from settings). Anyway, 8 hours is not that bad. The bad thing about iPod is that it does not have user replacable batteries, so you can’t carry charged spare batteries with you. Kinda good news is that you can charge it from any USB/Firewire ports or a power outlet.
The best thing about it is that it charges itself through USB, so cost of AAA battries.
Down side is that it doesn't have an FM tuner, or a screen, so you don't know what track is being played and it also doesn't come with an arm band & stuff. So, you have to pay extra or get a cheap one from wal-mart.
my bro just ordered the Creative Zen after some research online and it had pretty good reviews. Will post here once with feedback once he gets it and starts using it.
wonderful...thank you guys so much for the info...plz do update me on anymore info you guys have about any of the MP3 players. I probably going to wait a few weeks before I do buy one.
Iolo (available only at Wal-Mart) is the best flash mp3 player for its size, price and memory. It has built in 256 MB and a SD card slot. Price is $80.
if you use only during exercise then one from Nike-phillips is also good , and its solid state so no hard drive hence no skipping. it can also record your exercise schedule, running, etc and you can watch your progress on PC as you progress.
i have sony ericsson P900 , it has all , PDA, phone, camera, Mp3 player, less space but can be upgraded with good memory stick. its good if you dont listen too much songs and dont want to carry different gadgets.
I have the iPaq 6315 (phone/PDA with MP3 capability) but I love my 512 mb Creative Muvo Tx with FM with a USB 2.0 connector that fits right into the USB port. (can also be used to transfer data files).
Sony’s new NW-HD1 20 GB MP3 Player is pretty good (http://news.sel.sony.com/digitalimages/photo?photo_id=164037), as is the Archos Gmini (http://archos.com/products/overview/gmini_xs200.html). I also own the Archos Pocket Video Recorder (AV380) but its a little too bulky, excellent to be used as an external hard drive.
Ok so what conclusion have we come to??? Which one should I buy? I want to burn songs from my cd onto the MP3 player. Also iPod has special deals for college students do other MP3's do that???
Umar: Does your bro like the MP3 player or no??? Give more feedback. Thanks.
