MP3 Car Audio

Hi

My MP3 audio files won’t play in my car (Cavalier) for some reason. In our Mazda, they play fine. I figure it must be my stereo. I am also assuming that I need to some how convert the files so that they will play in my car?

What do I convert them to? What software do I use?

Right now, transferring MP3 files onto a CD and playing them in the car simply won’t work. :frowning:

Also, has anybody tried the iPod car accessories to play their iPod in their cars? I am checking out the Apple website and there are too many selections. Which ones do you recommend?

Re: MP3 Car Audio

Umm dumb question but… does your cavalier have a mp3/cd player or just a plain cd player? If it has a mp3/cd player and that same cd is working fine in the other car then it should work fine in this car. I’m guessing its your stereo.

If you want to play your iPod in your car you have 3 options depending on what kinda stereo you have.

  1. Tape Stereo.. you can get one of those electronic cassette adapters which have a wire sticking out that goes into the iPod and the cassette adapter goes in the stereo.

  2. stereo with AUX in line. You get a cable with both ends as the 3.5 mm pin (the one that goes into the ipod’s audio port). At one end it goes to the ipod, the other end it goes in yoru stereo’s AUX (auxillary) IN port.

  3. If you dont have either of the above then you can resort to an FM transmitter (least recommended). Its a device that takes audio from your mp3 player and transmits it within your car on a set frequency, say 89.1 FM. You then tune your car’s FM tuner to 89.1 FM and you catch those waves. Not very reliable and the sound quality sucks major ass. More details here: http://www.paklinks.com/gs/showthread.php?t=214201

Stop trying to be all chic and all by buying stuff off the apple store. :stuck_out_tongue: Just drive to best buy you’ll find a huge variety of all ipod accessories you need, apple and other brands.

Re: MP3 Car Audio

You could buy an FM transmitter for your ipod. I m using one for months now and works just fine. Just click the transmitter on the ipod, tune the frequency and voila  more then 1000 songs available :halo:

Re: MP3 Car Audio

Cheegy pira, over here the friggin ugly FM transmitter is the worst.

Click on this link to know why…

But there has been a different transmitter with the frequency 90.5, but u have a local arabic channel here as well.

Its so friggin annoying.

Re: MP3 Car Audio

Mehnaz, I think its time for a car upgrade :)
Maybe consider changing the head-unit (cd-player) to one that plays MP3s. They're less than $100 plus installation, which if u do it at Circuit City comes with the free reverse install.

Re: MP3 Car Audio

:(

Can't I just convert these files so that they play on a CD in my car?

Re: MP3 Car Audio

sure, just use any of the audio buring software and burn it to audio cd's.

Re: MP3 Car Audio

you can convert them, however you'd only be able to fit six to seven songs per cd.
I duno bout others, but i've noticed you loose the sound quality when converting sometimes.

If you are bent upon converting then use Cheetah DVD burner, its got a feature of converting any format to any other format.

Or just buy a mp3 player.

As for plugging ipod into the cd player, all the new mp3 players are coming with aux feature where you plug whatever you want into it and play.

I saw one with a usb slot in it too but didnt end up buying it cause it wasnt brand name.

Re: MP3 Car Audio

O mai, tum poora dhaga parhthi ho ya nahin? We already advised her on upgrading. And i think its Line-in, not AUX.
I did post this one head-unit with usb and SD card stuff. Check it out.

PS: here’s this other head-unit:

Thats what it says on mine

Duno bout the others.

Aux in Line in same thing naa

Plug karooo aur sunoooo

Re: MP3 Car Audio

i currently use the fm radio one..and it does the job welll…but the qualit sucks! i mean u can buy the kit for like 30 bucks but its not worth it. I’d higly recommend just extending some RCA cables out from ur car decks input and leave them hanging around the dash board area. Buy a simple car ipod holder and plug in the phono jack coming out from ur stereo of the car and ur set!

Re: MP3 Car Audio

and then you'd have cd's galore and have no place to store 'em in your car.

did the people at Apple not think about this while they were in the process of making the ipod?
there should be a simple device that you could use, plug it into your car and ta-da! music at your fingertips.

Re: MP3 Car Audio

I hate wires around the dashboard, so I either use rewritable CDs to burn songs onto and reuse them once I get fed-up of them.

I’ve also used FM Transmitters and have generally been satisfied with them… one of the things to keep in mind is to make sure that the wireless transmitter can work over a range of frequencies and should also have a built-in sound filter.

For ipoDs, I like the Belkin Tunecast transmitter… and for other players, the Mercury and the Dynex are pretty good.
