Moving to UAE…
Interesting quest.. I’d like to know too.. ![]()
Not that I’m going to make a move tomorrow
Re: Moving to UAE…
All I know is one thing… if you have western/US/Canadian passport, you have greater value.
Re: Moving to UAE…
Very easy to start a business in Gulf countries…make sure you have enough dough.
Re: Moving to UAE…
Ok..been super busy this weekend. So here are the questions..
What are job prospects for expats?. For US/CAN?
How is the economy now as compare to some years ago. I am saying this coz, house prices fluctuates there a lot. That is what i heard. So is economy stable?. For those of that live there..how do you see that.
Last but not least…and i know it is very very vague question…but what kind of business one can invest in and how much do you have to invest??
Re: Moving to UAE…
What do you mean..like how it’s easy?
Re: Moving to UAE…
If you could tell us bit more about what type of business you plan to do that would be helpful…
Re: Moving to UAE…
For a family of 4. What should be the minimum pay to have a decent life (and put some in savings)?
I know decent life is a wide term but lets say min
- nice place to live 3 or 4 bed apartment/villa/condo ( in nice area)
- good schools (preferably american school - I have a 7th grader and 3rd grader)
- your regular …once a week dine out, outdoor fun etc.
give me just a ballpark perhaps?
Thanks in advance.
Re: Moving to UAE…
Depends on the state you are living in
Abudhabi is expensive so roughly (10ks for monthly rent+5K for education+5Ks for other stuff) total in 20 K expense you can have quite decent life( Rent is for apartment in a decent area, villas are much expensive)
Dubai exp would be around 90% and Sharjah 70%(rentals are much cheaper in sharjah) Ajman 50%(you can get a villa in 10 k in ajman)
i hope this helps.
Re: Moving to UAE…
So 20k Durhams can give a good life to family of 4 (I was thinking Dubai). Anything over can go to savings.
btw, how much will the villa (3-4 bed) be? 15k ?
Thanks
Re: Moving to UAE…
I’ve heard in Dubai most people live in apartments and finding a good spacious property in decent price is difficult that’s why a lot of people live in Abu Dhabi or Sharjah.
Re: Moving to UAE…
@hareem01
it is the other way round. Abu dhabi is more expensive. I have many colleague working in abudhabi but living in dubai or sharjah.
Villas cost around 220K and above annualy
@DECENT
Yes a decent life
A professional with some experience , right contacts and western passport can easily get above 35k. A good employer gives 35~50k for some one with 10+ years experience.
Re: Moving to UAE…
^really? That’s new to me.
Btw, Decent, why don’t you look into moving to Qatar? I personally think it’s better than UAE.
Re: Moving to UAE…
Can you plz list down the reasons why.
Re: Moving to UAE…
hmmm cool thanks. I check all the boxes there ![]()
Idea of moving to “middle-east” has been floating around in our household (primarily from my wife) for quite sometime now. We have not specifically discussed any county/city yet but my assumptions are
- UAE (read Dubai) has better job and education opportunities
- It will be easier to adjust for kids and wife in Dubai (for it being really universal city) than in any other city.
- documents requirements (visa etc) are easier to take care of for Dubai than for any other country of middle-east
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Re: Moving to UAE…
^ plus pakistan is much closer, it is just like a domestic flight.
Re: Moving to UAE…
Yeah in terms of education, UAE is much better than Qatar. I homeschool my kids so I didn’t give that point any thought…
If you have a Canadian or American nationality then moving to Middle East shouldn’t be a problem. Most of the times, the company that hires you does all the paper work for you…their HR department will sort everything out for you…from your visa to residency etc.
Re: Moving to UAE…
with our parents aging and not willing to move to US or Canada, this is the top reason we want to be “near home”
