I am writing from Hungary, from East Central Europe. We (my girlfriend and me) are planning to move to Pakistan. I will be employed by a newly established mobile phone operator in Islamabad. We would be glad to move and live there, the only question is what opportunities are there for a young European woman.
I mean, is it possible to get a job for woman, what kind of difficulties will we have to face and any other information on this issue would be welcome.

out of that "tons of jobs" can u give me a gram.:)
Dylan the truth is 80% of the country’s qualified youth is leaving for greener pastures , and I don’t blame them.
Civil sector is riddled with corruption but as a foreigner it should not effect you. Mobil link will be your biggest competitor, 68% of the market share. (i.e if u work for the new upcoming Norwegian Cell company).
Tell ur wife to apply for a job in the American school, Good atmosphere, good pay, and security.
it depends pn her education or experience. opportunities are there..in many cases for expats the companies moving them would give their significant other a job as well. u may want to look into that too.

Thanks for the answers.
Yes, it is the norwegian company. What do you think about the mobile market? I have read the mobile penetration is 2-3% which is quite low so far.
And one more question, is the foreigners' integration easy in Pakistan? For example different clothes, culture etc...
Is everyone's English as good as yours? Could we get on speaking English only?

Dylan
^ if moving to Islamabad then no problem, already many foreigner working there. Its a beautiful and most cleaner city with controlled population and basic necessities available easily.
Other cities have their own set of problems. Ranging from law and order, pollution, traffic etc.
English should not be a problem depending on locality.
Mobile usage is very high in urban areas and growing at remarkable speed. It is evident from more companies comming in business.
Clothing should be modest in public places. Thats all have fun :)

For the most part, refer to your girlfriend as your wife when talking to people about her. That will save lots of unnecessary trouble.

I think this doesnt apply with foreigners cheegum.
I have had alot of interaction with Europeans living in Islamabad, due to my dad's profession of german language teaching. I will answer this post, as a living point of view in Islamabad. Almost all of them loved living in Islamabad, there are now places like Kohsar market, dedicated to foriegners, and new academic and recreational facilites being opened in the city. I also remember a good friend of my dad, Mr. Matosh, from Hungary, who was a counselor at the Hungarian embassy. He was given a very nice house on Hill Road F-8, lived like a king :) I went back to Hungary about 4 years ago, but he said he would miss living in Islambad.
Do you know Dreher? I would certainly take some bottles.:)
My girlfriend is formally english teacher but she works as sales at a telecommunication company. Good to hear that there is no restriction for working women, we were afraid of it.
Sorry, if I ask unpolite questions, but I know very little about Pakistan. Or I knew very little. :-)
Islamabad is perfcet for foreigners specially.. Beautiful, Serence peace ful and neat … yes you will need to inncorporate with culture a little bit but it wont bother you much.. you can even go on vacations to northern areas if you want… its beautiful up there..I dont think you will have problem adjusting though .. if you are not to rigid about rules and regulations… Good Luck
DYLAN,
advance welcome to Pakistan. islamabad is the cuntry’s BEST place, it’s clean, beautiful and the capital city in every way. there are a lot of foreign citizens who live their and enjoy the culture and lifestyle.being a special employ of a lkarge organization i believe youll have good status and faciliotes and youll love each moment. ppl are generally very hospitable towards foreigners.
for your girlfriend there would be countless opportunties. she can take up a job at any of the leading schools if she likes teaching, shools always welcom that as it adds flavour to their faculty with foreign assortments. she can also get hired by any of the 4-5 star hotels in and around islamabad for any mngmt jobs etc. opportunities never end here. there are a lot of clubs and cultural centres in embassies that also keep looking for qualifies staff.
whaen are you getting here? and best of luck!:k:
feel free to ask for any more info or help reqd.
