Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

Hi there asselaam aleykum,

I don’t know if this is the correct subforum for this question, but anyhow..

I am currently living in a western country in Europe. I was born and raised in this country. I am in my early twenties and still a student. But to be very honest i am just getting sick of this country. I just wanna live in pakistan. We do have a house in pakistan, but would it be a good decision? I do want to have a good job, but are there enough opportunities to work for a young woman? Is it safe? I have younger siblings, so my mom and dad won’t be moving to pakistan soon. They really want it too, but it’s just not that easy.
Does anyone have exoerience with this?

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

If you're willing to accept a lower standard of living sure it is possible. Do you have any family there to help/support you? Otherwise it may be lonely.

Also what kind of job are you looking for? Pakistan's economy isn't the best in fact Pakistan is about 3 weeks away from defaulting.

Either way, good luck.

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

Lowet standard of living? Can you explain what you mean by that? Yes i do have family around in pakistan but will not depend on them. But it is always safe and nice to have them around. So that is not a problem.

I am studying Bsc of business administration. It would be great if i could find a job at Ernst&Young PK or something like that. I will keep checkinh their website.

Thank you!

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

What I mean is that Pakistan has many problems which will be a stalk reality to where you live now. Load shedding, terrorism, corruption, lack of opportunities etc.

Well maybe you should secure a job at E&Y which allows you to transfer to their Pakistan branch. Actually, that may be a good idea. Targeting foreign companies who operate in Pakistan. :)

You're still studying so you have some time to do some research.

(I'm in Pakistan atm and as soon I wrote that the blooming electric went :@)

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

Oh that's true those problems will not be solved soon i guess. That isn't a bad idea. I will study hard these 2 years and plan it out in sha Allah. But it's scary because the culture on the workfloor will also be different.

Haha pakistani electricity ki besti kar di that's why it took revenge on you lol

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

Well two years are more than enough to understand what you want. Middle East is also an option? I was offered a job in Pakistan too for the British Govt but decided against it.

It seems that way! lol. Well it's back. I don't mind too much during the day as there is lots to do here. (eat, sleep, eat some more.)

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

It Depends.. If you are well qualified and experienced then there are lot of oppertunites,, but ur in twenties so i think u need to work hard. Get more education and then start ur professional career.

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

The middle east is too unfamiliar to me. I've always been intrested in Asian countries only.

Eat and sleep..that doesn't sound that bad. I've never been in Pakistan in this season. Would love to visit it in the winter.

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

That's true. I will have to work hard these years :(

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

Wish u best of luck :flowers:

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

Thank you very much dear

Getting in E&Y or any multinational in Pakistan is tough. High competition from strong local and foreign Pakistani grads. So hopefully you are at an institution with a very strong reputation or at minimum is well known.

Why don't you do internships in Pakistan during term breaks. That will not only give you an insight into life in Pakistan, professional and personal, but also help you build a local professional network that can help.

If I were in your shoes and was committed to the move, I may even try a term at a local uni. You can transfer classes in many cases so you will not lose time.

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

That's not a bad idea. And yes i know it is very difficult to get in EY but i have build a network here and my grades aren't bad either. I will try to get in to EY here and than try to transfer.

But the internship sounds good too. I will do some research on that. What about the culture in those mulitnationals? Do you know if discrimination based on gender is common?

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

Well Gulf countries are not too bad to work in as their working philosophies are based upon western notions. BUT as you have said only Asian countries interest you. Don't forget the south-east Asian countries.

And yes eating and sleeping is the perfect combination however one does get bored due to lack of activity. Well I live in Kashmir so its quite cool/cold in the morning and at night and warm during the day. Coming from the UK personally I feel the weather is perfect right now.

And as always X2 has offered some sound advice.

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

With a degree from EU you can easily find a job in any of the top companies in Pakistan if you are smart enough and living with family is just amazing in Pakistan

Best of luck!

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

I don't think there are opportunities even for foreign grads unless they've some experience under their belt or may be need some serious contacts. My cousin is ACCA qualified but didn't get a job according to his standard but got lucky and found a job in Saudia which is really good. Even I don't want to say long in Canada once I'll done my studies get some experience and moving back to Pakistan or at least try to get a job in middle east

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

Accountancy is highly saturated in Pakistan at the moment. EY wouldn't be as it is in western countries, they slave you in pakistan. Better prospects for females are with MBA. So, first thing, just do internships as suggested earlier,so that you get the feel of how it is like..only then you will be able to make a sound decision.

Re: Moving to pakistan - Job opportunities

My cousin did try that in early part of her 20s. She ran away from there after couple of months after. So ya..keep your options open. Go for a bit..transfer classes or do internship there to feel of things there. Insha'Allah everything will fall into place.
