Re: Moving to MANCHESTER from Pakistan after shadi :)
No, in Manchester they roll their words out a lot.
I would never like to talk about what I think of Brummies and how they 'talk'.

Wilmslow road is the answer to all your questions
… you get all halal grocery, restaurants , salons, shopping, gold buying , desi social events happening there …
and the answer to all your western clothes is Primark ![]()
Re: Moving to MANCHESTER from Pakistan after shadi :)

Re: Moving to MANCHESTER from Pakistan after shadi :)
:D:D
thankyou ladies... :) that has cheered me up ALOT ! :)
hopefully I would get used to the accent as well ;) hehe
Re: Moving to MANCHESTER from Pakistan after shadi :)
^Oh god, please no. Whatever accent you have right now, keep it!!
It is going to be tough though with your husband's job. You will be alone all day and when he comes home I'm sure most of the time he won't be up to going out as much as you might like, so you need to be prepared for that.
Does he have relatives there? Friends with wives who don't work? I don't think it's a big issue if you're a self sufficient person but some girls have a lot of expectations and pin them on the one person and that relationship and then become very miserable when reality hits.
You will need to make your own life too and get out and about during the day.
Re: Moving to MANCHESTER from Pakistan after shadi :)
haha i meant getting used to OTHER people's accent. :D I know it would be quite lonely all day. But I plan to start studying for my PLAB. As soon I'd clear it, hopefully I would start working too IA
He does have friends here. And I have a few duur k relatives too :)
But I know what you mean. With such a bonded family system in Pak, moving to a place with no1 else to look up to except my husband, expectations do tend to sky high and things can get tough. Let's hope everything turns out well IA
Re: Moving to MANCHESTER from Pakistan after shadi :)
Well, I know you have stuff to do but you can still get lonely. There is only so much you can study. PLAB will take a while too, there are only 2 or 3 sittings for PLAB1 per year, first you have to clear that and then take PLAB2. It can take a year if not more just because you have to wait for the exams.
With your husband's working hours you will be on your own a lot and then on top of that I don't think you can expect to have the kind of couples social life as if he was in a 9-6 job.
I could never move away from London.
Manchester... the accents.... shudder
Lol oh i so knw wat u mean!!n welsh accents annoy me to da max!
Ohh i love manchester/sheffield/bradford/leeds accents! Ohhhhhhhhh im getting excited
Lol i have a bradford accent MB!! i think you're the first person ive heard who actually likes it! :D
Re: Moving to MANCHESTER from Pakistan after shadi ![]()
u seem to have been given lots of great advice enigmatica
Hopefully your stress levels have decreased!
I am an american guppie so I can’t really say much
. But I do have an auntie in Manchester who I have visited a few times!! Loads of other family members living near the London area as well. I found Manchester to be a lovely area, particularly because of the desi community! While we were staying with my auntie we were invited to a few dinner parties and it was a nice experience.
The U.K in general is so lucky to have so many ready available asian (paki/indian) things. People have mentioned that its not a problem getting groceries, halal meat, clothing, and even beauty services. You will inshAllah be fine and the transition in this regard will be smooth.
The U.S. is not so great in that area
I had an auntie that moved here after she married my mamoo (mom’s cousin) and she had a hard time adjusting. Living in the middle of nowhere of New York - it was difficult to find desi things and products..there was no desi community…she felt lonely. “Asian” over here means Chinese/Japanese …
But you are not going to have these issues living in Manchester at all! ![]()
You don’t want to get too lonely though as Stoppit says. Studying will take up a lot of your time… but even you are not going to want it to consume your entire life. It’s healthy to take breaks from it once in a while. My khalaa would shadow doctors at the local hospital when she moved to the UK and was studying for the PLAB. She said it was a great way for her to keep in touch with practicing medicine, she met people, and it broke up the monotony of her day. Perhaps you could do this where your husband works??? You guys could get lunch together there sometimes!
. lol its just a thought.
Re: Moving to MANCHESTER from Pakistan after shadi :)
^That's a great idea PunjabiRose.
Given that your fiance is a doctor himself, I'm sure he can organise this for you.
You just reminded me that I need to look into this for my own other half. Gah! Another thing added to the list.
Re: Moving to MANCHESTER from Pakistan after shadi :)
Manchehstah, lol. its a decent place, good luck with everything :)
Re: Moving to MANCHESTER from Pakistan after shadi :)
Move to Birmingham, Birmingham has a even better and stronger community, everything is bigger and better in Birmingham!
