Hey Peepzzz. I am moving to Chicago and my family has been scaring the crap out of me due to crime history and violence. My university and work is in downtown so which place is the safest to rent an apartment? I am getting very scared about moving out on my own. Local people, please get back to me. What Uni and what's your budget? Uic, Loyola, DePaul, u of Chicago, northwestern? And what area will you be working in?
When you take out inner city, gangster on gangster violence, it's really not too bad.

I am not exactly from Illinois, but I have lived there for a short while due to work. I was in the Schaumburg area. It was pretty nice, decent actually. (though it was a bit far from DT area)
Oh and for some good desi food do try out Devon Avenue (Sabri nihari et al.)
