$45,000 for a family will not be enough to survive on but for one person would be enough. You do have to go back to your home country when your H1 expires. It used to be that you could go to Canada but not any more. H1 doesn’t last more than 6 years. There are companies that sponsor your green card too if they offer you a job visa but not all do.

Chicago is great. You will live in a suburb or safe area. Devon Street in Chicago will give you a desi feel with its desi resturants and stores. In my opinion 6 months is not a long enough time, take at least a year before you decide you like it.
You are planning to move to USA anyways it seems. What if you don’t want to? But if it’s a must, I think this is a good opportunity. Your parents can sponsor you too, if they are citizens.
