When My Indian Mom Divorced My Dad, She Became an Outcast. It Also Saved Her Life.*|*Gursimran Sandhu

I read this great article and instantly thought about this thread. I think what the writer says is what some people can relate too. I do think she also uses a lot of generlization, but a good read.

Thank you for sharing.

It's sad that we share this nasty part of our cultures with others. It's up to us now to change attitudes in ourselves and society, so tomorrow our children won't suffer too.

Re: moving on?

I know this one couple who had love marriage. They dated for a year and divorced within a month. The girl said that he beat her. She got married to someone else the same year (also love marriage). They are doing good and celebrated their 1 year anniversary recently. I think the guy was deported as he was a canadian citizen and not USA. Her family was very supportive of the divorce.

Another couple who had arranged marriage got divorced within 3 months. Apparently the girl used to call her parents, who would travel to their city and fight with the hubby when he got back from work. They asked for a separate house and the guy bought it, she was going to school, he got her a car, etc. They haven't re-married yet. The guy's family was against the divorce but the girl's side said that this was their only daughter. The guy is still paying the mortgage on the house, where no one lives. He is having a had time selling it because it is a huge property.
