Moving from London to Lahore/Working in Lahore

Asalam alikum (Hi),

i was wondering if someone would be able to help. I’m thinking of moving from London to Lahore. I have about 6 years of working for multinationals (including investment and retail banks) as a team leader and senior developer (Java related). I wanted to know what are the posibility of me finding a reasonably paid job, with a large company in lahore (or any other major cities). Before i move to Pakistan? I don’t have a timeline just yet as soon as possible would be great.

Any suggestions/help would be great.

i think it will be better to just start your own business, with 6 years in multinationals you could easily get a loan.

Don't i need to be a pakistani national to get secure a loan? My wife is Pakistani, would that help at all?

I think you have good opportunites in mulitnational companies or bank...try googling on company names and find their HR contact info and start sending them ur CV via mail while u r still in UK.

I will recommend you, do not leave London its much better place thank Lahore.

I myself thinking to move from london to lahore in few years time. it might be better place, but it hasnt got the same life you enjoy in Lahore.

I miss my friends, family and lahore itself. thats the only i will go back for. so it all depends on what you want from life.

my suggestion is if you have such experience, dont make the mistake to apply for normal consultant jobs cause you can get much better than that if you are educated in UK and have experience.

send cv through any friend already working there, that will much better. if not then email with covering letter and call them after to chase it.

at the moment much activity is in Telecoms sector so apply to them. u can also try Banks or call center organisations ie, TRG

I agree. Their is this other thing in life called happiness, or life quality. Surveys show that richer people in comaprisson to poor are happier. Surveys also shows countries where tax is higher e.g. France, Finalnd, Sweden are happier becuase they feel as though they have a life outisde work, they earn less, pay more tax yet more happy.

Depends what you want in life. Rat race or more to life.

phileas what kind of salary do you have in mind? Theres plenty of sware companies in lahore . best bets for you would be lahore and Islamabad, you can gun for around Rupees 100k per month or thereabouts with your experience.

Software companies in Pakistan arent "large". The biggest are by US / UK standards mid-size, I guess 130 employees would be a pretty big deal, the norm would be close to 50.

I can help you out if you tell me more about your background. I would recommend getting a job before you leave london, moving to Pakistan isnt an easy transition to make.

I can assure you, being a muslim in London, there is more uncertainty here than in Pakistan. Not to mention less security!

In the previous post someone mentioned getting a loan. Does anyone know what the procedures are for a non resident applying for a loan?

Thanks Shah, that was very helpful. My wife is Pakistani and comes from Lahore. So i'm hoping to move over there. TO be honest the standard of living in Lahore is fantastic IF you have money :/ In London unless your earning in the 100,000's your not going to have a very good standard of living. Well at least not similar to Pakistan.

What would you guys recommend: Apply as a Team Leader/Project Manager or as a lead developer (Java/J2EE)?

Thanks for your helpful reply to my thread. Well you asked about my backgroud: I have experience in various industries:

Ministry of Defence as lead developer,
Department of Trade and Indeustry as team leader,
Shell Petroleum as Java/J2EE developer,
I have also worked for a financial services company as well as the largest Japanese retail bank Mizuho.

As mentioned above, my backgroud is mainly in the Web based applications and server side development.
