^ Smokey :Weed is from the earth. God put this here for me and you. Take advantage man, take advantage. <3

I forgot all about Army of Darkness. 'Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.'

Ha. El Topo's defeat of the masters, and his subsequent remorse over the manner of his victories, is mainly why I heart Jodorowsky.

Taxidermia is so much fun in a really disgusting sort of way; the ending especially! You can't really eat a meatball sub while watching it : D. And yeah, the dude getting his pecker pecked by the cockerel was hilarious.
Begotten, is messed up - I'm glad I watched it but I don't think I would sit through it again. Only learnt about it because I liked the Shadow of the Vampire, which was by the same director.
Have you seen Un Chien Andalou? It was a Bunuel/Salvador Dali collaboration. I think Begotten was partly inspired by it.
Talking of movies that are different, what about Enter the Void?

Re: Movies from 90's

How did you guys forget When Harry Met Sally? I love that one!

Re: Movies from 90’s

I loved Army of Darkness. Its hilariously awesome.

  • I really enjoyed it. I’ve seen Santa Sangre which I hope you have too? I’m waiting for my internet to get sorted and I’m going on a downloading spree to get Holy Mountain! :hehe:

  • Hah Topo! Yay for having seen Taxidermia. Its one of those really gross things that you can’t help looking away from. I loved it. Every little bit!

  • Eeek you get points for watching Begotten. Yes, I threw that in there as an extreme case. I’m impressed that you had the stomach to watch it the first time around. Its probably one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen. But one of those ‘Have to see it once’ kinda films?

  • Oh no I haven’t. I’ll be checking some reviews out and its going in my download queue!

  • I love you <3 You know that? I was going to recommend Irreversible and Seul Contre Tous (The latter has been on the dowload queue for about 2 months now but I’ve seen clips of it and I know I will love it!) Yes, Enter the Void was pretty trippy. Makes you think about life after death, no? And anything to do with Japan, even though that’s not the point but yeah. Either way anything that makes me think has to be brilliant.

So yeah, Irreversible, Seul Contre Tous and umm lets see Santa Sangre? Have you seen all of these?! Tell me you have! Fist Bump

Re: Movies from 90's

I haven't seen Seul Contre Tous yet! Will do at some point, Gasper Noe is one of the best directors out there today. Irreversible was pretty darn good. Yeah, Enter the void, trippy; the last scene kinda depressed me cos it's like was that him just being born again - being doomed to live the same life over and over?

Santa Sangre, you're like only the second person I know who has actually seen that <3 I think of it as a fairytale for psychopaths : D
Holy Mountain is even trippier; everyone involved was high during its making.

What about Waking Life? It took me a few goes to sit through that, it's pretty insightful.

Re: Movies from 90's

Agreed. I love him because his work is different but not in the cliche different way. Its identifiable?

Doomed to live the same life over and over or perhaps perpetually experience the few moments of bliss between the banality. I don't know, I have mixed feelings.

Haha Santa Sangre is amazing. I felt it. Do you ever feel like you can see yourself living that twisted fairytale? I mean, its hard to resist the temptation to suddenly be in that vision. Its so human. Almost as if that is the real 'us' and we're just pretending to be things we aren't. But again, those were life experiences that escalated into the crescendo and subsequent climax of violence. The whole mother-son angle was so prime. Aaargh I love it! I have to watch Holy Mountain, I'll report back with my thoughts.

I'll watch Waking Life today if I can. Dream is Destiny <3

What a beautiful expression.

Santa Sangre. That's an interesting way of looking at it. When I was a kid I used to have this recurring nightmare of a being that was made up completely of cockroaches and worms. It would approach me and I would run terrified, even though in the dream I was aware that all it wanted to do was talk to me.
Eventually I did hear it out, but only after it had acquired a more presentable appearance. It's relevant because it made me realise that we are frightened of our true natures, of reality. The film, and your observation, reminds me of that. So yes, in a way we kind of do live in that fairytale; life is surreal.

A friend of mine used to say, and I'm just going to copy/paste her;* Life is dark and dirty, and applying a coat of pink and yellow to it might be a good enough distraction for some, but you'll never meet all those secret hidden parts of you that way. *

So yeah, Jodorowsky's films are amongst those that help chip away at the pink and yellow.

Re: Movies from 90's

Just watched 'Good Will Hunting', it was pretty darn good, classic poor clever boy meets inspiring father like figure story.
Keep the tissue box handy though.

Re: Movies from 90's

Haha that dream sounds pretty intense for a kid! But hey, you think about these things and sometimes you get a thought or two out of it.

All we're ever doing is precariously balancing on that fine line between the natural us or the conditioned/controlled us.

I really like that little gem by your friend. And yes Jodorowsky's films fall within a category I call mind**** films (Not my invention). And I love mind**** movies because they surprise you, amaze you, disgust you even but at the end of it all (If you manage to get to the end) you might just learn something about yourself.

Re: Movies from 90's
