I watched Lawrence of Arabia. I personally don't like it because that British guy divided the Muslims (Arabs & Ottomon Turks). Actually the movie made me annoyed.
its an awesome movie a very good movie i myself have seen it around 5-6 times wanted to show it in da MSA meeting at college but no one was payin attention so dropped da idea :d
Arabeeya - I saw this movie in pak. Its a good movie, & all that I studied in school was perfectly visualized on screen. I never knew that idols were kept in the Holy Kaaba, I only studied that the Meccans worshipped idols in Mecca, but I only pictured them differently in my mind.
The best part of the movie was when our Prophet (S.A.W.W) helped in construction of Hazrat Bilal's (R.A) masjid. Hazrat Bilal (R.A) has the only honor of the call of azan on top of the Holy Kaaba. The most beautiful Hadith - "Work is like worship" The harder u work, the closer u r 2 ALLAH. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The battles were portrayed in a very decent manner, & all I would say in regard 2 this movie is - superb. If only this gen understood the sacrifices our elders made 2 spread Islam.

That was the Prophet's mosque, not HAzrat Bilal's. The mosque you saw being constructed in the movie was MAsjid -al Nabawi.

all the movie is just :k: but as someone already stated the best part was the the FIRST call for prayer (AZAAN) when they decided about a HUMAN VOICE - to call everyone to the mosque - ruling out the other options like BELLS and trumpet etc etc. IT WAS SO LOGICAL
It is Quite old movie but very good.
Muslims should be ashamed that non muslims made such a nice movie and all they could do was bashing about why they showed some sahaba(ra).
Some facts about the movie...
-While this movie was being made, an exact replica was being made simaltaneously with a totally different cast in Arabic... The scenes were exactly the same, except with different actors and in Arabic. The director said that since Arabic had a magic of its own, it would be fair to make a version in Arabic too, not with dubbing, but originality.
-While the sets of the old city of Makkah were being developed, most of the labor was being utilized by the local village there, who after seeing the completed set, especially of the Kaabah itself, got infuriated.
A deadly storm wiped out the first set that was developed for the movie, causing huge financial setbacks that questioned whether the movie could be completed or not.
This movie was made possible because of a new strategy, that prevented any movies being made on Islam, by portraying the camera, as the eyes of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). This made sure that no rules were violated, and a movie on Islam also made.
-Hazrat Ali's sword was also shown, while he bravely goes on for a duel in Gazhwae Badar.
-Anthony Quinn, who was very impressed with Islam played a magnificent character, one of his personal favourites, as the Prophet's (pbuh) uncle, Hamzah.
-The director was an Arab living in the west, and he said he felt it was his duty to make a movie about Islam, that portrays it how Islam in its true spirit.
-There was a major hostage incident in North America, where some fanatics demanded that the movie be taken off cinemas of the US since they felt it was not right.
- The movie was earlier named, The Story of Islam, but then it was changed to 'The Message'.
I loved the movie, and would urge everyone not to get pirated copies, but buy it. Trust me, its worth it. Although everything in the movie is good, I love the part where one Muslims from the delegation to Abyssinia answers to Christian king, and when he recites the versus of the Quran, he wins over the Christian King Najashi.

isnt it haraam to watch photographic material like this? ...especially images depicting the prophet?
well, the mainstream scholarly viewpoint is that one cannot make a movie/play or whatever depicting the FACE of the prophet. Meaning, we can see a man's figure representing the prophet (given that we knew how he dressed, etc), but we should avoid depicting his face because it could somehow turn into a form of idol worship. I think that's a plausible idea.
However, defining it as haraam or halaal, that's a different thing. I personally dont think that making a movie on the prophet's life and the beginnings of Islam would be haraam, because the movie was made to foster understanding of why some things are the way they are in Islam, and to help folks understand that its not some cult-group.
