absoultely right. It is a very beautiful movie, last summer I was watching this documentry on Sony about raj kapoor, where Shashi was said:-
He said mera naam joker apnay waqt say pehlay ki film thee, naye zamanay ki film thee, agar yeh film aaj kall kay zamanay main banti to buhut chalti. Us zamanay kay loge us film ko samajh nahi sakay.
The songs of that movie make you think! And truely raj kapoor is the greatest Showman ever!
It was said once jab Raj kapoor rota hay to Dunya hansti hay, aur jab Dilip umar hansata hay to sunya roti hay. Thats is absolutely true!
Asif,
Have to say this was a fantastic film, great songs, direction, terrific acting by everyone involved. It's too bad, RK was never able to make the followup he wanted, since the film flopped.
ALiBeta,
Don't know if the film would be a hit today either.
First of all, the film that I think was the best indian film made in the last 25 years - Lahme, also flopped at the box office.
Secondly, the songs from most films made today don't have lyrics like "Jane kahan gaye woh din" or "jeena yahan, marna yahan". Today lyrics seem secondary to rythmn, and even if someone wanted to have lyrics like those songs, who would write them?
The two best Bollywood lyricsts today - Gulzar and javed Akhter - don't have the talent.

you mentioned Lamhe, it was a good movie but you have to realize that Anil kapoor ended up marrying the heroine's daughter, that is rather a new concept in the Indian society and movie goers werent able to accept this. It was at the time strange. So thats why the movie was a flop
