Move the Biharis to Peshawar ?

Link to a somewhat related story

As I was reading the BBC news (link above), made me think that Pakistan is not being fair here. They should let these guys come to Pakistan. 300,000 is a big number, but they can move these guys to the afghan camps temporarily, and then I guess try and integrate them. They already speak Urdu. With the recent exodus of afghan refugees out of pakistan, its not like pakistan can’t absorb them.

It’ll make a good feel good story for mass consumption. Think about it.

Frontier, and Baluchistan have beared a terrible burden of keeping so many refugees for so long. They have received almost no compensation for the effect two wras and constant instability has done to them. While I am very sympathetic to their plight, thats no solution.

A sad story, but I agree there is no real solution.

Back during the war, didn't the Saudi government make an offer to Pakistan that they would assume all the financial costs of the repatriation - if only Pakistan would allow these individuals to return to west Pakistan ? My Ammi and her family were based in Bangladesh during that time; that's what she just told me right now.

Pathans and peshawar-ites have been known for their hospitality...

whether it being a sikh (khalsa) race left behind by the sikh rulers , or whether it be the 1.2 milloion afghan refugees , All of them have been absorbed and welcomed by peshawar ......

Peshawar ites have never complained if there jobs businesses were being taken over by afghanis , (the whole university road is full of shops run by afghanis) so biharis dont make a difference....

we welcome every race/faith and language in peshawar, if an afhani/sikh/bihari can make better kahwa and chapli kebabs his business will boom in peshawar neither does he need a work permit , working visa or anything. ....

How ironic civilised countries have strict laws about absorbing aliens , and look at my beautiful peshawar , we accept every 1 with open arms .

Peace to all
:)

thats what i was getting at. i mean, i've read more than a million afghanis have left peshawar for afghanistan, 300,000 Urdu speaking biharis will be like a drop in the bucket. also, 300,000 non jamaati voters will be a good thing.. maybe..

There are already many Urdu speaking people in all cities of Punjab, the thing is that there's not that much racism in Punjab, therefore there havent been any problems here.

Well, for once I would like to see Biharis being settled in Punjab. I have heard sooo much regarding Punjabis, their self-serving/preserving habits, the greed and what not.... Despite being a Punjabi, I get to hear such views all the time; often I find people say that unintentionally but whatever's the truth , there is deep seated contempt for the province Punjab and the punjabis.

When we can welcome Bosnians and allow them to stay in Punjab(its another story that they couldnt bear the harsh climatic conditions), the Afghanis to move freely from Peshawar to Karachi, why can't we let those stranded Biharis come over. Oh and yes not to forget those many Burmese, Bengalis who are staying illegaly in Karachi.

as long as pakistatan does not take bak the stranded pakistanis (its wrong to call the m biharis) all pakistans talk of muslim solidarity and infact the suppport to kashmiri muslims falls low
well if there is any student of history here he will tell you that these people were at the forefront of the pakistan movement. and after the direct action call by muslim league and the subsequent voilence large number of bihari muslims were slaughtered in revenge
whatever but i think these people must be settled in pakistan as soon as possible

good point about the muslim solidarity. i mean, we have all these protests in pakistan about muslims from kashmir to palestine, but nothing for the biharis. kinda pathetic, and goes to show the sincerity ..

Well there are entire villages that I know of in Layah and Gujranwala districts that belong to Urdu speaking people. More of them won't be a problem...it never has been. Infact the group of Stranded Pakistanis that did come over in the early nineties were initially settled in R Y Khan I believe. Mashallah Punjab has enough room for everyone in the hearts as well as on the ground so when you come over bring your entire "tubbar" :)

I think it would be a good idea to habilitate them in Gwadar, since it is going to be a new city. They can brought gradually so that adjustment is easy.
