Re: move back to pakistan for study
Man if you have a degree from USA and then you come back to Pakistan its ten times easier getting a job. But when it comes to Medicine, the choice about coming to Pakistan cant be JUST for medical education. You have to come here cuz you want an excuse to live in another country, live in the Paki culture for at least some part of your life etc. Thats the only way you can survive/enjoy it etc. But if your coming to Pakistan to become a doctor, and thats completely it, study and nothing else and just get out, then your best going to the carribean or something.
A lot of people have the misconception that people who are stupid and dumb and stuff come to pakistan for medical school (or medical college as they so like to rub in your face if you ever say the word school cuz they think the word school means for kids). Its totally not true, if someone can get admission here and pass through the 5 years of it their not dumb at all, they have to deal with the same amount of studying as everyone else, plus the headache of being an outsider and totally confused half the time. So it comes out equally the same in difficulty I would say.
And if someone says come to Pakistan for medical cuz its faster, than thats total BS! First off, you have to plan in high school that you wanna come to pak so you have all the pre-reqs complete by the time you graduate and get your diploma, and sometimes by the time you get your diploma watever, the paki school year has moved on and your too late (sometimes, not usually).. And then you might have to take a subject in college you never took in high school first, another year gone. So by the time you get in, your 19 or 20. Id say the average age of a first year foreign medical student in Pakistan from usa is around 20-21. The ones who are 18/19 are those studious girls who never go out and obey everything their parents say. You wont even know their a foreigner in med school here cuz they totally dress 100% the same, eat w/the other girls, live w/them and have impeccable urdu skills or probably live w/their aunt/uncle. Anyway, after 5 years, IF you get through w/out failing, you will be what, 23 if you started at 18 but no one does from the west so say 20, your done at age 25. Then you have to take the USMLE which most american med students took during their med school, while you take it after your done most likely. So factor in 6 months studying for step 1, step 2, time between tests, etc your 27. By the time you get into a residency if everything went smoothly, your 28.
In USA/Good Carribean school = first 4 years pre med at your local university, you get ure bachelors by age 22, and 4 years med school, with usmle done at the end of 4th year, your 26. Say I'm off by 2 years even your still back to 28. And even then, you dont have to sweat so much about finding a residency etc.
Cons of USA med = admission tough, studying tougher, tough schedule, LOTS of loans, books expensive, these are all opposite in Pakistan =) (some may beg to differ)
Pros of USA = see above
