The apple doesn’t fall far from the proverbial tree in motor racing. That’s how you end up with dynasties like Andretti, Hill, Villeneuve, Earnhardt and Penske.
In this case we’re talking about Jay Penske, who - though he went into publishing and not the automotive industry - followed in his father’s footsteps straight into IndyCar racing. And while his Dragon Racing team has yet to win a race, it has fielded some prominent drivers, like Ryan Briscoe, Raphael Matos, Sebastien Bourdais, Patrick Carpentier, Paul Tracy, Tomas Scheckter and Scott Speed.
You might call Dragon Racing the next Andretti Autosport, and now it’s following Michael Andretti’s team straight into the inaugural Formula E season, where they will join Drayson Racing and China Racing as the first four in an earmarked 10-team grid.
The FIA has also revealed the provisional calendar for the inaugural season of electric racing, starting off next September in Beijing before hitting Malaysia, Hong Kong, Uruguay, Argentina, LA, Miami, Monte Carlo and Berlin before wrapping up in London in June 2015. Of course the roster of teams and calendar of races are still pending approval of the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council, but you can scope out the pair of press releases below in the meantime.Continue reading Jay Penske’s Dragon Racing signs on for 2014 Formula E Championship
