You should always get "DOT" approved helmet. that is one of the lowest standards that a helmet should adhere too (for safety). You really have your helmey cracked rather than your skull ... that why its important to look for proper standard helmet.
In terms of features - What you should look for is that VENTS. More vents the better. It gets really hot in there, so more vents is better.
and get something that is matching with your bike. Which bike are you getting? :D
P.S: Its strongly advisable NOT to buy used one because you never know if its dropped hardly and may have micro cracks in it, that may not hold properly when you need it most.

Well one dealer is willing to sell for $6700. still shopping around.
