Motivational Speaker

I’ve always wondered what drives a person to listen to and follow the advice of a motivational speaker? They help you to ‘set life goals’ and ‘find balance’. Do people who don’t have religion find some sense of purpose from this. Or can anyone benefit from it. I have a friend who was recently going through a pile of her husbands old things in storage. She found 8 tapes of Anthony Robbins and was about to toss them out. But her husband said he’ll never part with them. She was curious and after hearing one tape she is hooked. She listens to it in the car, at home, everywhere. She’s in this phase of trying to find success. So she was telling me about how he suggests finding success depending on an individual’s priorities. I have to say much of it is common sense. The rest of it I’ve never been curious to know. This friend also recently started selling Mary Kay products. She is also listening to Suze Orman for financial tips.

So how beneficial are all these experts? Are they really allowing a person to become better, more focused, more successful? Or are they just making a killing by selling tickets, books and tapes? Can a person realize their ‘peak performance’ from people like Anthony Robbins? I have to say I’m a skeptic. Any first hand experiences?

Re: Motivational Speaker

I've heard a few motivational speakers who try to get people back to Islam. However, I gave up on them fast, as what they were sharing wasn't very accurate.

Just last week, an acquaintance sent me a few lectures to listen to, which weren't at all motivational.

Other than that, I just recently had to listen to a guest speaker (perhaps was invited for the purpose of motivate the audience) who happens to be a CGA. He went on and on about how he started from nothing and is doing so well. I didn't at all find it motivating. I was more interested in what the other individual had to say, as he was merely sharing the facts and figures.

I suppose I'm the type who strictly likes facts and figures rather than the random mumbo jumbo.

Re: Motivational Speaker

May be my logic is wrong , par lets take it this way .u know u start believing on anything or only those thing tht u know, soemthing u don t know u havn t heard of never see, u never belief tht.by listening again and agin ofcourse it soemtimes have some action on u , As u know for every action , there is an equal and opposite reaction , opposite in this sense , tht soemtimes u don t have tht thing in ur habit , par after listening u develop soemthing through hard work and dedication.these tapes just motivate u , YEs u can do it. and thn
Say YES to a commitment when it is bound to change ur life.
whtever u listen ,smells, see , thn think abt it ..everything has its action and reaction.I mean these r only ways for getting input.and when u listen to soemone again and again , somtimes soemthing clicks, yaa these tapes definately help u if u listen thm carefully, making in mind tht u have to do soemthing .Otherwise nothing happens u the same after listening these tapes too.

Re: Motivational Speaker

3/4th of the motivation has to do with your own will and desire to be motivated. People like anthony Robbins just rattle your cage.

Re: Motivational Speaker

Fayz, I agree that motivation and desire to succeed is within an individual. Some people have it to a greater degree than others though. That's why I don't get this phenomena of people seeking enlightenment or seeking their 'inner truth'. People believe that if they seek within and find balance then success will come to them. If they walk in the footsteps of strong, successful people and model their behavior then they will have the same success. All of that sounds like common sense. So why should you go to the seminars, buy the books and tapes?

Someone like Deepak Chopra gives it a more spirtual and holistic angle. I don't mean to be advertising these people.

Re: Motivational Speaker

Sometimes it is necessary that a person gets a boost from outside of themselves. Motivational speakers who are really inspirational and sincere, can have a dramatic effect on people.

Its not necessary for everyone, and its not necessary that a person who listens to a motivational speaker NEEDS it ALL the time.

Sometimes it is nice to go to a speech or a ceremony of sorts and hear someone's well-drafted and delivered speach, and sure, it can lead one to walk away with increased hope.

At the same time, there are so many con-artists out there, that you just have to really think about what someone says before you get swayed off your feet.

Deepak Chopra is so full of crap. He's such a money-making freak.
