Motivation

The more and more I work with people, the more and more I see that there really is just ONE thing that motivates people.

Their own selfishness and greed.

Your thoughts?

Re: Motivation

Maybe it’s a very pessimistic outlook but I do think that it has an element of reality in it. Most people are very motivated by greed. It’s really sad because we don’t start out that way. I wonder what our kindergarten selves would say to us now. . .
But, I also think that humans are capable of compassion. When disasters happen, whether it be Hurricane Katrina, the tsunami in South East Asia, the Earthquake in Pakistan, you see the best in people and you see the worst. So my point is that although we are motivated by selfishness and greed, there are instances when compassion and humanity shine through. As selfish as we are, there is that element to hopefully balance it out somewhat.

Did that make sense?

Re: Motivation

Many people also do it 4 the sake of being recognized and being appriciated and to impess people :p

Re: Motivation

Motivation to do what?

Motivation to earn more and more money (more than their needs) is greed.

What kind of motivation are you referring to?

Re: Motivation

its a dog eat dog world. no one cares about others. if you want to be nice n miss-goody-goody then makre sure u keep a will with you. bcoz you won't last long in any environment. :D

Re: Motivation

Yup.

There was an article posted on Salon ( I think) a while ago…something about how being a “nice” person at work isn’t helpful to your career…in fact, those who are selfish jerks tend to prosper.

Re: Motivation

i would share my thoughts on this topic but what's in it for me?
