I only have boys but I’d like to think that I’d have the same outlook if if did have a girl or 2…

Having a child, no matter what the age, is a huge responsibility. And to grant them privacy, I feel it is a privelege that needs to be earned. If the child (whether male or female) is deserving of such privacy then hands down it will be granted. But poor grades, lack of socialization, poor social skills etc…that is cause for concern and needs more intense monitoring.

I agree, but sometimes desi parents want that control, I guess, even when the child is doing great in school.

Another thing…we will never have a computer in our childrens room. COmputer will be in the family room, intensely monitored and secured. Even at a later age and when they are trusted and upstanding, they should never have to hide from us.

Not too many people use desktop these days and they will be even less popular in future. What if your kids have laptops? Will they still have to sit in the family room in order to use computers? If you want to monitor/restrict their activity/access, you can always set the parental control on (although some kids find their ways around) but that should help some.

My mom doesn’t have a problem with me having my door shut but I never really see the need to lock it myself.. My bro always has his door locked, and mom never has a problem with that although.. OK I admit it, I do get curious - so I play knock-door-run on his door to get him to open it :halo:

I do that to my sister sometimes jokingly When I know she’s buried in her books and will have a hard time getting up and opening the door, I knock and come sit in the living room and act like it wasn’t me who knocked on the door
