Motherhood/ Fatherhood and You!!

You both so are :k: Ma sha Allah.

Re: Motherhood/ Fatherhood and You!!

Excellent thread!

I can't imagine my life without my kids. They are my source of joy. They make my life complete. I love how they love me back, no conditions. I love how they let me kiss them at the bus stop every morning and run to me and give me that much awaited hug every afternoon. I never get tired of it. I love listening to their stories, their opinions, watching them grow up into a little bit of me and little bit of their dad.

How have I changed? I think my heart has become bigger to accommodate all of their love, my mind has expanded to deal with responsibility, my body has become stronger to carry out my life duties and above all, I got this huge smile on my face to know I'm blessed.

Re: Motherhood/ Fatherhood and You!!

  1. I realized what unconditional love truly means. The love that you have for your child knows no depth and is truly the purest kind.
  2. I became closer to my religion. I want my kids to have a strong Muslim identity and that can only happen if I lead them by example.
  3. I became a safe driver! I used to speed, do rolling stops, make U turns all the time. Now I drive like those uncles I used to make fun of.
  4. Like others, I live in a constant state of gratitude, fear and guilt. Gratitude for being blessed with such a beautiful, healthy child, fear of my child getting hurt and guilt of not being the perfect parent.

Re: Motherhood/ Fatherhood and You!!

There is a saying in German which goes like “Vater werden ist nicht schwer, Vater sein dagegen sehr!” which would translate to “Becoming a father is not difficult, being a father is!”.

I disagree with that, because being a father is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me. I have three wonderful kids, Alhamdulillah. Has it changed me? Yes it has, I think I have become more patient, more understanding and much more appreciative of the blessings Allah has bestowed on us.

Re: Motherhood/ Fatherhood and You!!

I think the quote is saying that anyone can be a father a child, its easy, but taking on the responsibility of being a father is the difficult part.

Re: Motherhood/ Fatherhood and You!!

You are right, that’s what the quote means in a general sense and therefore it is probably true. What I meant was that the saying does not apply to me as a person because I am quite happy with that responsibility.

Re: Motherhood/ Fatherhood and You!!

Okay I’ll try.

I don’t think becoming a mother has made me a better person. The period when I had 3 kids under the age of 5, was very depressing. I dedicated every minute of my life to them and forgot about my own self completely. I neglected myself in every respect. And on top I had no help, no appreciation and no motivation. People around me discouraged me and doubted me for my parenting and teaching skills, even though, I don’t see anyone putting this much time into their kids. SometimeI think, “is this all even worth the effort?”.

Hopefully, one day others and I will see the outcomes of my efforts inshallah.

Motherhood hasn’t made me a better person but I have definitely changed a hell lot. I feel I’m a confident person now, with clear goals.
