Mother of the Groom

I’m trying to get an outfit sorted for my mum to wear at my brother’s wedding/walima? not sure what colour or kaam, heaviness to go.

Any suggestions or pics?

Thanks

Re: Mother of the Groom

If she could go well with a Sari .. I say go for that !

Re: Mother of the Groom

Thanks Naabigh, she's never worn a sari so that would be out of the question. She's likely to opt for a shalwaar kameez (perhaps slight a-line), but the colour and type of kaam is the puzzle.

Re: Mother of the Groom

Is she the type that would feel more comfortable in stitched fabric, or would she wear readymade styles? Also, does she prefer light colours (light peach, creams, light pinks, mint greens) or more brighter colours?

Re: Mother of the Groom

I’m looking for an outfit for my mum and my aunt at the moment, for my mum we ended up getting a navy kameez made from Pakistan, with pearls and dabka work on the neckline and a plain salwar.

For my aunt, she wants a nude/cream colour so we’re looking at either an A-Line dress shape or a long kameez for her in nude pink or light creams. These are the kinds of things we’ve been looking at:

Hope these are some help!!

Re: Mother of the Groom

Thanks Mad Hatter, I wanted her to wear some colour as she always opts for pastels but bright colours don't always look elegant on older ladies. I like the idea of dabkha and pearl kaam. The first outfit is v pretty. I like the suit in the second pic for myself ;-)

We always opt for pistachio or peach for mum so need to move away from those. We're not colour-coordinating at the wedding so in a way that makes it difficult.

Re: Mother of the Groom

How about something like a magenta colour? We got this colour for my mum with peals on it and embroidery for my sister’s valima, looks really pretty. We got it as fabric and she stitched it into a suit. Something like this colour:

Turquoise or egg plant purple looks elegant on mums :) with pearls n dabka work
Em also looking for a diff n elegant color for my mother to wear on my shadi :)

Re: Mother of the Groom

thats a lovely colour Mad Hatter but sis is wearing it. I like the sound of egg plant colour and agree pearl and dabka work it is. I really like peach as well, suits all ages.

Re: Mother of the Groom

I think emerald green looks gorgeous on older women. And also, the trick with older women is to do one solid color, rather than a lot of mishmash.

Re: Mother of the Groom

i think nudes and pastels look super elegant on older ladies (like the ones Mad Hatter posted).. it makes them look really fresh. champagne and light grey are really in. i know most aunties would never want to wear light grey, but it really looks amazing in the long flowy gown silhouette.
