If you're not sure on whose money it is, then don't concern yourself much with the story. Mian - biwi ka maamla hai. Its their busines, let them deal with it. Saas ko acha nahi laga, then that is her perogative to communicate that to her son.

Beyond that, these dramas will keep happening. All you have to do is worry about making the right choices if you ever do get put into that situation.
