irem: hmm..aap ke pehle comment main damm hai. However, when i spoke of social pressures, I was talking more about the attitude at home: âsab acha haiâ..after all hum aik musalmaan mulk hain..right? The fact is, all is NOT well! No. certainly not. He could easily have written a run-of-the-mill regular romance story of the east, all with our local situations, landmarks and others. Could have well earned him laurels then on as wellâŚnahin? Instead, he chose to depict what generally doesnât get depicted very much as far as Pakistan is concerned.
and no, i strongly disagree that he has woven a fictitious western story purzor ihtejaaj and just put in the local landmarks and character names for the added punch of making it appear eastern. The guy knows whatâs going on around in here and chooses to unveil it. Doesnât really matter if it holds true for like 0.05% of the local population (though i personally would put the percentage as higher), the fact still remains that it still is true-bitter âhushed uponâ kinda truth. KherâŚlike you, itâs just my most humble opinion as well! ![]()
regarding the two writers you mentionedâŚyou are right..i hold them in no regard whatsoever too. Shallow. You can find them dozen a pennyâŚexploits and opportunists of the highest order.

Good book. enjoyed thoroughly!! the real side of human interaction in teh lahore heat was engaging. I am sure it is quite true to reality. At least from what some of the lahorites have mentioned.
i read the book couple of years back and was shocked to see the other side of pakistan. though i was not surprised but i felt pakistani high society was more addictive than indian one.
but it was an interesting book
