I also wanna knw. and when it should be started?
Re: Most nutritious cereals for growing kids
oatmeal/porridge?
Re: Most nutritious cereals for growing kids
Cheerios (if they insist the honey nut; otherwise plain)
Oatmeal
Kix
I let them have fruit loops but never a full bowl always half of that and half cheerios
the first thing we eat in the morning is uber important because the body will treat insulin levels in accordance to what it intakes first thing in the morning.
Doctors have said to make sure kids get a 3 gram or whats ounces of protien in breakfast.
the source can vary - eggs/yogurt/oatmeal
Re: Most nutritious cereals for growing kids
^That's helpful!
Re: Most nutritious cereals for growing kids
Cheerios are good too.
The idea is to give them nutrition and not sugars. So look for iron fortified cereals, cereals that have nuts [if your kids are not allergic], oats.
Re: Most nutritious cereals for growing kids
but addition of a portion of protein and fruits is equally important for kids.
oats are the best in nutrition for growing kids!
Re: Most nutritious cereals for growing kids
^^ yup - I'm just a little more sensative to the insulin side of things because my family has a history of Diabetes.
Re: Most nutritious cereals for growing kids

Yes, so for school age kids, a typical nutritious breakfast would be: half-1 cup of a good cereal with a cup of milk, 2-3 strawberries or half banana. They would get their dairy, protein, fruit and carb portions.

when they can swallow...i would say 13-15 months if I remember correctly

yes that would make a good balance. Also do add an eggs after at least a day or two for them !

I started giving them to my daughter around the time she was 10 months old.Almost a year later, she still loves them, both plain and with milk.
Re: Most nutritious cereals for growing kids
Eggs, 3 times a week
So a breakfast could be:
1 egg
1 toast with butter
or french toast
1 cup of milk
piece of fuit
then cereal [above combo] 2 times
1 day I may give custard with fruit or fruit yoghurt [so dairy, some protein and fruit is taken care of], some almonds [protein]
and 1 day I may do a desi nashta: aloo ka paratha with dahi. [carbs, protein, dairy], and some fruit.
Re: Most nutritious cereals for growing kids
Cream of wheat is a very healthy breakfast for kids of all age.
Re: Most nutritious cereals for growing kids
Honey nut Cheerios...its what I grew up on!
Re: Most nutritious cereals for growing kids
there is no such thing as a nutritious processed cereal. certainly not cheerios.
Re: Most nutritious cereals for growing kids
I would feel more satisfied if my child ate something else rather than cereal, like maybe eggs and bread with a side of fruit and milk. But if they are going to have cereal I think anything not too sugary and colorful, like cheerios or weetabix bites or something like that should be better. But then it all comes down to what the child wants to eat too.Like my younger sister used to give my parents such a hard time at breakfast that they were like eat whatever you want, atleast don't leave the house empty stomach.
We grew up on cereal for breakfast most of the mornings and on others a sandwich of maybe egg or chicken or a kabab.

Really? :(
The nutritionist and doc told me to give my kids a good cereal that is low in sugar but has other nutritional content.
Re: Most nutritious cereals for growing kids
so you need to give them natural, unprocessed cereals with no added sugar.
but they're only eating cereal twice a week, so don't worry.
