Paradise Lost by John Milton. I was very interested, but when I read that we humans pay for Adam's and Eve's sin, I closed the Book and said "Not with me"...

Most people find it annoying because of its preachiness. And the fact that Robinson Crusoe is a jerk adds fuel to the annoyance. Besides this, Daniel Defoe’s decorated but mightily elaborated language at times can make you feel exhausted. But still, it’s a must read…it teaches you patience and perseverance.
