Also, the thing is that since it is allowed in Islam, if a man's got to go for it he can. Women have the right to divorce and receive mehr, and in this country, assets as decided by law. So in worst situations, there is a way out. In some parts of India, strict hindu rituals ask for a widow to be burnt with her husband, or divorced ladies don't stand a chance of re-marrying. Islam is the only religion, if practiced per shariah, gives women more rights than any other religion we know. Unfortunately, our culture is so influenced by non-Islamic practices that we are lost most of the time.
