So, what is it ?

I think it is to smile and be polite to anyone who insults and degrades you infront of your family members/ friends by false accusation on you with words to which you are most sensitive to.

^ May be that is the same reason the reward of such a “smile of forgiveness” is so high infront of the Lord and is most commonly found in saints, Waliullahs and Prophets.

off topic but yea that's exactly what I think it is each time I see it, even if i've seen it hundreds of times now. it's not creepy though just an optical illusion of sorts.
