We are going to Pak next week with the kids, just wondering if there are many machher about? As someone told me there aren’t any when its cold. I can’t see my kids taking anti malarial tabs as they taste vile!

Relax. No mosquitoes and matchers at this time of the year since it’s winter.By the way, you are more likely to suffer dengue then malaria from a mosquito bite, in Punjab.

i think mosquitos return with full vengeance in middle of February or even earlier depending on the weather. i was in India last February and i was bitten 1 million and 1 times and all that during namaaz in the masjid. we don't have mosquitoes in our home there because all the door have screen doors on then which are always closed.

I've seen mosquitoes in Islamabad 2 years ago in Dec in a market but the seemed to be inactive. They were banging their heads against the jewelry store glass display walls :)
But yes, with kids, that is also my main concern. I have given malaria pills to my kids before in a teaspoon of honey. But I'd rather not do that each time :( My biggest concern is Dengue as well :(
What precautions do the locals take in this regard?
