Mosques in India & Temples in Pakistan

After partition in 1947, many religious places on both sides of the border were destroyed or converted to schools, offices, etc. This impact is more obvious in areas like Punjab & Sindh.

Do you know about such religious buildings which were abandoned and changed its status.

I remember the famous Rama Bagh of Karachi, which was a sacred place for Hindus as Bhagwan Rama and Mata Sita styaed there on their way to/from Hinglaaj. The place has been converted to a Park namely ‘Aram Bagh’ :frowning:

Re: Mosques in India & Temples in Pakistan

The famous chowk '' Guru Mandir '' is still known as the same ..

Re: Mosques in India & Temples in Pakistan

I ow there are a lot of Temples in the North of Pakistan that remain largely untouched some have fallen into disrepair but at least they have not been desecrated.

I think many are abandoned not just becuase the Hindu and Sikh people left but also becuase Pakistani's have spread rumours over the years that they are haunted by Jins and so on... whereas there is some truth to those rumours not Jins but some of them I have chanced upon were inhabited by wandering fammilies and occasional bandits.

Re: Mosques in India & Temples in Pakistan

But is there any Mandir near Guru Mandir? Seems the Mandir lost its identity. I heard that 'sabeel wali masjid' was probably Mandir before partition.

Re: Mosques in India & Temples in Pakistan

There are some famous Mandirs like Saad belo (a Mandir on island of River indus near Sukkur) which still exist and considered as sacred for both Hindu and Muslim communities.

In my Dada's town, the main mandir was occupied by a migrant family and it is believed that they found gold and other valuables, when they dug the land for reconstruction :D

Re: Mosques in India & Temples in Pakistan

Yes the Gold story is very plausible I remeber a Bhudist Stupa was dug up in the valleys to the south and that had gold in it too. But I would not support those who actively desecrate holy sites for treasure seeking.

Its wrong to damage a building even if it belongs to other races or creeds. Plus it carries a very high risk. A tembple does not need to have Indiana Jones still spike traps, boulder runs and posioned darts shooting out of walls for traps. A simple cave in or structural damge leading to parts of the building collapsing on you will kill a hunter just as easily.

When I was young I did do a lot of very bad things but I have changed a lot since then and now its better to respect all rather than try and make a name for yourself.

Re: Mosques in India & Temples in Pakistan

When Iqbal visited Masjid e Qartaba in Spain, he was very moved about the status of mosque, where no one comes to pray. He had probably never thought that partition of his own country would make hundreds of such mosques :(

Re: Mosques in India & Temples in Pakistan

Well not all the Masjids in Inda are in such a state one of the greatest Masjids is India's best kept little secret and sometimes I think it should stay that way, the little masjid that holds ten men is just as important as the Masjid that holds 10,000.

Waissay the Earth is not so small that all its people cannot find peace in some place somewhere. :)

Re: Mosques in India & Temples in Pakistan

Well said. But the situation of Mosques in some areas due to total change in demography created many masjid e Qartaba in India, where there is no azaan or offering of prayers :(

Re: Mosques in India & Temples in Pakistan

Well in these times I dont know whats more depressing Masjid without Namazi or Namazi without a Masjid... what we should bear in mind is that all these things are tests from Allah.

If you truly believe in the good things of this World then as Rumi has said time and again, you can search for Allah in the Kabah and Haram and from Mountain to Mountain but he will always be wherever you are... he is eternal and will be forever everywhere.

We have to remember that things are beyond our control for that is what Allah wants whatever he has in stall for us or his people only he knows best we must look to preserve what we have and give thanks for that.

I look to Baghdad and see that in the Midst of bombs many a Masjid still flourishes and then I look to Saudi Arabia where there are Masjids built by our Nabi pak and where king or peasant do not go even though there is no danger of bombs.

In the end of the day its the strength of our Iman that is what we must focuss on. We weep for what we have lost in India but we are not the only ones who feel that pain. Hindus have also lost thier places and this should be a lesson for all people to understand.

There is land enough for all, so why must our people strive for war.
