Um, well, it just means the guy has started making payments for his own place as oppose to inheriting something (easy way out, and shows zero manlihood).
Now if you have the cash lying around to put down 100% on a home, then bless your soul, go ahead and do that.
But most people don't , so they have to take a loan out.
I know of a family that did it this way. They rented, and saved on the side, and didn't buy until they could put all the money down in cash. You know when they finally got a place? When they were in their 60's, son out and married, and they got a 1 bedroom condo for the elderly in a small elderly development.
Meanwhile, they spent their son's formative years in a cheap rental, in a dangerous area where they got robbed a few times, and where they had to send the kid to a bad public school (he came out sufficiently retarded)...all to avoid paying interest on a mortgage...
I'm not saying loans in America are fun. They're pretty ridiculous, and like cp says elsewhere, they are designed to keep you indebted for a long time...great way for the rich to control the poor as usual. And naturally, the government is in no rush to reign them in.
I don't understand some of these interest rates. I mean, they could be lower honestly.
But at the same time, there is some peace of mind that you earned that property and you paid for it, as oppose to your daddy paying for it (which happens in many pakistani families...)
seriously speaking, that's a retarded way of thinking. don't you think?
why isn't a job/business and respect not enough? why must one become a slave to be accepted? I call it jahalat. You?
i call it a lame way to reject any suitor. uncle nay kisi or larkay koe pasand ker liya hai apni beti k leya.
btw, its really good for the suitor that he sees these kinda ridiculous things right now otherwise such in-laws would have had asked him leave his parents.

It's not. You need a roof over your head for something called "rain".
Both man and woman make a house , so I think they both should wait till they get married and every month chipin their share to pay the mortgage . A lot of people do that , and I think a great example of teamwork .
and yea and man shouldn't make a mistake of buying a house before he is married , as his wife gona change everything anyways . :p
I think CP’s intent with this is all about the interest-argument. A mortgage involves a person paying interest in addition to principal of a loan borrowed to buy a house.
So, CP thinks anyone who takes out loans is a monkey to the Western system, and why should we be proud of those men?
Right, like I’d be proud of a loser drop-out who sits and debates Islam all day and doesn’t do any real work with his life, and is too proud to work with the system and just purchase a house already and instead would make my daughter live in a dump to evade paying interest. But he’ll pay rent - money he’ll lose and never see again. :k: Smart man.
My husband did not have his 'own' property on mortgage when we got married, he lived in a one bedroom flat on rent.
This doesn't mean my parents were desperate to shove me off to the first man that came for me, they just realised that if you find a diamond don't let it go - regardless of what his assets are, if the guy is honest, hard working and sincere he will definately keep your daughter happy.
Gosh they are clever my mum and dad and they can see beyond things like how many cars/houses/how much the guy's bank balance is! Alhamdulillah. My husband has recently bought his first 4 bedroom property and it's beautiful.
There are sooo many nice guys out there that get overlooked just because they don't have their own house YET, or don't drive a flashy car. Trust me those things are achievable after because your rizq is written no matter what.
wow, I cant imagine buying a house with cash! You need at least a quarter of a million dollars!!
This uncle is a bit odd in his thinking that a mortgage makes him a man.
BUT...there is a plus side to having a mortgage! The interest you pay on a mortgage loan is fully tax deductible. A married couple living in an apartment gets killed at tax time. But a married couple paying a mortgage usually gets money back.
Interest rates on mortgage loans are pretty low, not nearly the rate of credit cards etc because the loan is secured with the house as collateral. So you pay it off slowly over time...but your monthly living expenses are going toward total ownership. When you rent an apartment, the monthy living expense just goes out the window.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to get a mortgage if it goes against their religion. But you should know both sides of the story too.
many jahil parents do this. when parents want greater say in who to marry and who not, they should be able to see beyond obvious. carrying debt might also mean that guy has made a mess of his life…
If you buy a home, using mortgage as a helping hand, in a decent neighborhood in a city where prices are rising , you end up gaining equity , which is your return on investment.
You can send your kids to decent schools , your kids end up hanging around decent friends and end up high achievers.
This might not be true in all cases but I have seen it happening again and again. I have my faith in this system.
how come no one is mentioning interest free loans that you can get from islamic banking system? There are quite a few available in teh US now who help you buy a house without interest! There is always an alternative, you just have to look for it!

The uncles don't have the patience for these loans.
